May 27, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Melvin Fred Webb ODESSA Melvin Fred Webb, 87, of Odessa passed away Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1913, in Wilson, Okla. He married Wilma McGuinnis Savage on May 20, 1994, in Odessa. Mr. Webb moved to Odessa in 1927 from Wilson, Okla. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1929 and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1927. He had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years and retired as Assistant Postmaster of Odessa. He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, charter member of the Sheriffs Association, Perky Peers of the First United Methodist Church and the Prairie Dance Club. He was an avid bowler for many years and formed the first left-handed bowling team sponsored by D&L Sports Centers. Survivors are his wife, Wilma Webb of Odessa; sons, Sonny Webb and wife Judy of Odessa, Harley Mayberry and wife Peggy of Fort Worth; daughters, Barbara Perez and husband Jesus, Nita Lee Pressly and husband Ron and Arella Snapp, all of Odessa, Jean Reeves and husband Hugh of Houston; sisters Oleta Oaks of Bastrop and Naomi Troop of Fort Worth; 16 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. Service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Fred Webb, Jimmy Looney, Shawn Casey, Todd Reeves, Gary Peek, Jeff Pickens and Ron Pressly. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesus Perez and Hugh Reeves.
