June 20, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Joe R. Blackwood ODESSA Joe R. Blackwood, age 63, of Odessa passed away Monday, June 18, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Bratcher of Mission Dorado Baptist Church officiating. Masonic graveside rites will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Joe was born April 15, 1938, in Rogers, Ark., to William and Donna Templeton Blackwood. He was raised in San Angelo. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne. He married Bettye Pulliam on Sept. 1, 1959, in Owensboro, Ky. They moved to Odessa in 1962. Joe had worked for Rexene Oil Co. for 19 years, retiring in 1989 as warehouse foreman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 955, the York Rite and the Shriners. Mr. Blackwood was a member of Mission Dorado Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Bettye Blackwood of Odessa; half brothers, Terry and Mike Deason of Augusta, Kan.; two special nieces, Lisa Curtis of Owensboro, Ky., and Vicki Rose of Cranberry Township, Pa.; special friends, Jack and Ima Smith and Bill Wilkerson, all of Odessa; several other nieces and nephews; and many friends who were with the family during Joes illness.
