June 28, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Ruth Cuca Rodriguez ODESSA Ruth Cuca Rodriguez, age 74, of Odessa peacefully witnessed the face of God on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at approximately 4:30 p.m. She was born in Seguin on May 5, 1927, and moved to Odessa in 1947 with her husband Doroteo Rodriguez. They were married June 18, 1946. Ruth had spent the majority of her life bringing people to the Lord. Her apostleship has been an example for many. Her ministry included the founding of the Charismatic movement in the Catholic community in Odessa in 1968. She coordinated Life in the Spirit sermons and participated in Charismatic conferences both as a leader and speaker. She served in all phases of lay ministry in the Catholic Church, and her most recent role was serving in the San Angelo Diocese as the Midland and Odessa Deanery representative for Servant of the Servants. She was best known by her family and friends for her ability to always serve and help those in need. Cuca was a tender, loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her children will remember her for all the great meals she prepared with love. Grandma was their Ally. She was preceded in death by a son, Dan Doroteo Rodriguez on Sept. 26, 1986, and her parents, Juan and Consuelo Barrientes. She is survived by her husband, Doroteo Rodriguez of Odessa; sons, Leo L. Rodriguez of El Paso and Barney Albert Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; daughter, Dorothy Pepper and husband Steve of Odessa; brother, Henry Barrientes and wife Tomasa of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Roland, Roxie, Yuri, Luke, Ty, Leslie, Leo, Steven, Ashley and Forrest; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Samuel. Rosary will be said at noon today, June 28, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors, and she will lie in state at 5 p.m. today at St. Anthonys Catholic Church before the Mass. Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. today at St. Anthonys Catholic Church with the Revs. Bernard Gully and Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
