July 04, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries C.R. Rye Rylander IRAAN C.R. Rye Rylander, 87, of Iraan died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 4, 2001, at the Iraan High School auditorium in Iraan with the Revs. David Weyant and Rick Parker officiating. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Chapel of Iraan. Mr. Rylander was born Nov. 12, 1913, in Port Lavaca. He was a resident of Iraan since 1949. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 90th infantry. He was the owner of the Rye Oilfield Supply Co. He was a member of the American Legion and was very active in his community. He was a faithful Braves fan and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Rylander in 1995; a son, William David Rylander in 1941; three brothers, Mack Wesley Rylander, John Wesley Rylander and Weldon Rylander; and three sisters, Mary Bonorden, Ollie Selby and Clara Wren. Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Lutz and her husband Norman of Iraan; a son, Rick Rylander and his wife Mary of Iraan; and five grandchildren, Brian Lutz, Brent Lutz, Ryan Rylander, Drew Rylander and Cory Rylander, all of Iraan. The family wishes memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Iraan, 401 S. Hart St., Iraan, Texas, 79744. _________________________________________________________________ Guadalupe Wally Holguin Bernard MONAHANS Funeral Mass for beloved father and grandfather Guadalupe Wally Holguin Bernard, 70, of Irving is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church in Monahans with Father Richard Wziwood officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home of Monahans. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. He passed away Monday, July 2, 2001. Mr. Bernard was born Jan. 12, 1931, in Imperial to Francisco and Juliana Bernard. He lived most of his life in Monahans, where he and his wife, Vicenta, raised four sons. He worked as an automobile mechanic and had owned a restaurant-bar. He had lived in Euless for the past year. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 50 years, Vicenta Banuelos Bernard. Survivors include his brothers, Arturo Bernard of Kermit and Frank Bernard of Monahans; sisters, Carlota Reyes of Midland, Elodia Reyes of San Angelo, Esperanza Sotelo, Elvira Hernandez, Lucila Chavez, Elisa Martinez and Bessie Vargas, all of Monahans; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Esther Bernard of Angleton, Wally Bernard Jr. and Deborah Bernard of Angleton, Dr. Jack Bernard and Deanna Bernard of Athens and Ruben Bernard of Haltom City; grandchildren, George F. Bernard, Catherine Jean Dyer, Debbie Head, Ruben Bryan Bernard, Thomas Bernard, Kathleen and Jackson Bernard; great-grandchildren, Austyn and Christian Head and George Thomas and James George Bernard; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by all his family, especially his four boys and loving granddaughter, Debbie, and his two brothers and seven sisters. _________________________________________________________________ Ava Lea Ellzey ODESSA Ava Lea Ellzey, age 75, of Odessa passed away Monday, July 2, 2001, at her residence. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack Oden officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ava Lea was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Miami, Texas, to Sanford and Ada Humphries Carnahan. She married Thomas G. Ellzey June 19, 1945, in Canadian. They moved to Odessa in 1955. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. Her husband, T.G. Jerry Ellzey; a daughter, Sandra Hudson; and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Sarah Gill of Miami, Delma Poe of Odessa, Wina Garrett of Morongo Valley, Calif., and Jeri Ford of Herculaneum, Mo.; sisters, Ardelle Sirmans of Pampa and Jane Bright of Miami; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
