July 19, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Betty Jean Barclay ODESSA Betty Jean Barclay, 70, of Odessa passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Miss Barclay had lived in Odessa since 1951. She was Baptist and an active member of MHMR. Survivors are her brother, Leonard Barclay and wife Rose of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; sister, Lois Hoover and husband Douglas of Spring Hill, Fla.; three nephews, Marty, Gary and Ron Hoover; and niece, Pamela Barclay. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 19, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Oneta F. Thomas ODESSA Oneta F. Thomas was born May 16, 1915, in Sanco to Jim and Cora Preslar. She attended schools in Robert Lee and San Angelo. Oneta married William Scott Thomas on Nov. 22, 1937. They moved to Monahans in 1940. When Scott went overseas during World War II, Oneta packed parachutes at the Pyote Air Force Base. When Scott returned after the war, they moved to Odessa in 1946, where he worked for various drilling companies until his retirement in 1979. Scott died Nov. 3, 1984. Oneta fought a long, hard battle with cancer and heart failure until she went to join her beloved Scott in heaven July 16, 2001. Oneta loved her church, Crescent Park Baptist, and her Sunday School Girls. Oneta was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Cora Preslar; her sister, La Veta Preslar Fulks; and a stillborn baby brother. Survivors include her brother, Lyndal B. Preslar and his wife Maxine of Odessa, five nieces and five nephews. Oneta will be in state at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
