July 29, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Bobby Fisher HOMEWOOD, Ala. Bobby Creed Fisher, of Vestavia Hills, died Friday, July 27, 2001. He was a native of Odessa, Texas, and made his home in Alabama for the past 15 years. Mr. Fisher was a graduate of Texas Tech University where he attended on a football scholarship and graduated in Industrial Engineering. He attended graduate schools at the University of Tennessee in quality engineering, and Samford University in environmental management. He was employed at ABC Coke as Supervisor of Engineering, at Meadowcraft Industries as Director of Warehousing and Transportation and for the past five years was at Sloss Industries as Director of Environmental Affairs, Slag Wool Division. He was a certified Quality Engineer (CQE). Mr. Fisher was a member of the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mona Hurlbert Fisher; his stepson, Lane Hurlbert Carter; by a son, Brian Fisher of Longview, Texas; by his mother, Bobbie Fisher; sisters, Donna Warner and Sue Reeves; a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Kathy Fisher, all of Odessa; and a sister, Terry Sue Stelly of Port Barre, La. Funeral arrangements will be conducted by Ridouts Valley Chapel in Homewood, Ala., and officiated by Gary Furr, Th.D, Minister of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Valley Chapel on Monday, July 30, 2001, at 1 p.m., service at 2 p.m., with burial at Elmwood Cemetery following. _________________________________________________________________ Luvisa Baxter-Bielby MIDLAND Luvisa Baxter-Bielby died in an Odessa hospital on Friday, July 27, 2001. Graveside services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Luvisa Baxter-Bielby was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Coal County, Okla., to George and Lottie Lowrey. She was reared and educated in Oklahoma. In 1934, she married Earl G. Baxter in Tupelo, Okla. Two children were born of this union. They then moved to Midland County in 1939, until his death in 1958. In 1962, she married John Bielby in Midland, Texas. She was a member of Sun Country Baptist Church in Odessa and the Rebekah Lodge. Luvisa is survived by her son, John G. Baxter and his wife Mary of Odessa; her daughter, Karis K. Lewis and her husband Jim of Odessa; her two grandchildren, Robert E. White and Cheryl Parrish; and her eight great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________ Robert Bob Stark ODESSA Robert Bob Stark, 69, of Odessa passed away Friday, July 27, 2001 , at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Mangum, Okla. He married Arlie Fern Coley on Nov. 27, 1951, in Vernon, Texas. They moved to Odessa in 1991 from Crane, Texas. He worked for Arco Oil and Gas Co. for over 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Mason and a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He was a member of Westover Baptist Church. Mr. Stark was preceded in death by his parents Bolton and Kate Stark. Survivors are his wife, Fern Stark of Odessa; son Robert Wayne Stark Jr. and wife Laurie of Houston; daughter Laura Richards and husband Delbert of Lamesa; brother, Gresham Stark of Dallas; sister, Violet Norris of Mangum; sister-in-law Shirley Stark of Magnum; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Illa Fitzgerald of Odessa, five grandchildren Jason Stark of Snyder, Jeremy Stark of Irving, Katie Richards of Lamesa, Katie Brunson of Lamesa and Lindsey Richards of Lamesa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ John Riley Steadmon ODESSA John Riley Steadmon, 92, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 27, 1909, in Meridan, Miss. He married Ruth Young on Oct. 16, 1949, in Carlsbad, N.M. He moved to Odessa in 1959 from Andrews. He retired after 60 years in the oil field. Mr. Steadmon was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and George Steadmon; sons, Wayne Steadmon and John Steadmon Jr.; brothers, Edwin Steadmon, Burl Steadmon, Willie Steadmon and James Steadmon; sisters, Vera Rubvno, Bertha Steadmon and Opal Theaux. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Steadmon of Odessa; sons, Harold Steadmon of Sumner, Wash., John Roy Steadmon and Michael George Steadmon, both of Odessa; daughters, Barbara Smith of Inman, S.C., Janet Hamilton of Orange and Sherri Herrera of Denton; brothers, Ruben Steadmon of Big Spring and Ferman Steadmon of San Antonio; 35 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dewey Blevins officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Leo Blaschke MIDLAND Leo Blaschke, 89, of Midland, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. He was born Jan. 26, 1912, in Schulenburg, Texas. Mr. Blaschke lived in Odessa from 1947 to 1993. He worked as a tool pusher for Dillard & Walter-Mier and retired from Tom Brown Inc. in 1974. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Midland. Survivors are his wife of 69 years, Ruby Blaschke of Midland; son, Leon A. Blaschke and wife Sandy of Midland; daughter, Linda Kay Stark and husband Bill of Lubbock; sister, Florene Love of Amarillo; grandchildren, Kelly Donner, Lacy King, Kara Blaschke, Paige Stark, Johnathan Stark, Jason Stark, Kelly Cockerell and Lori Flemons; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at the Second Baptist Church of Midland with the Rev. H.W. Erwin Jr. officiating. Donna South Jones, 51 years of age, was called by our Lord on July 26, 2001, in Odessa, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Weeks DuBose officiating. Burial services will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa. Visitation will begin today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Donna grew up in Odessa, Texas. She graduated from Ector High School in 1968, and worked for the Odessa American and the Midland Reporter-Telegram. She retired in 1995 from Petroleum Information where she worked as an oil reporter. Donna married Gary Jones in 1987. She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy South; her stepfather Louis Jack Odom; and a brother, Louis Jack Odom Jr. Donna was a very caring and giving person. She never met anyone in need that she would not extend a helping hand. One of her most important qualities was that she made everyone around her feel special. Survivors include her husband, Gary Jones of Odessa; sons, Clifford Williams of Odessa and Andrew Jones of Anchorage, Alaska; mother, Neta Odom of Taylor, Ark.; brothers, Ray Odom of Tyler and Larry South of Denton; sisters, Shirley McElroy of Tyler, Reva Kirkland of Lubbock, Linda Robinson of Springhill, La., Geri Odom of Flint, Brenda Hood of Krum and Deb Odom of Taylor, Ark. Donna is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many beloved family members and friends. Pallbearers will be Wayne Hammonds, Jack Streicher, Larry Kerr, Rick Branseum, Ismael Arroyo, Terry Winkler, Eddy Lane and Tommy Beckham.
