August 07, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ Gary Ross Douglass ODESSA Gary Ross Douglass, age 58, of Odessa went to be with his Heavenly Father on Aug. 5, 2001. He was born Sept. 25, 1942, in Abilene to Ross and Lenora Douglass. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. John Harrington officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Douglass grew up all around West Texas. He graduated from high school in Trent. He worked briefly for REA Cooperative. He then worked for Southwestern Bell, retiring July 1, 2000. He met Charlotte Thompson, and they were married Aug. 3, 1982. He was a member of St. Stephens Charismatic Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers within the phone company. He was a loving husband, father and friend, and he will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Douglass of Odessa; daughters, Paige Ward and husband Danny of Irving and Jill Click of Arlington; sons, Lee Ginn and wife Karen of Odessa and Dustin Ginn of Odessa; sister, Nicki Wright and husband Don of Abilene; brothers, Don Douglass and wife Dorothy of Big Spring and Kenneth Douglass and wife Charlotte of Clyde; and grandchildren, Trent and Tye Click of Arlington and Morgan and Maddie Ward of Irving. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) _________________________________________________________________ Mary Anna Harrington ODESSA Mary Anna Harrington was born May 1, 1921, in Cambridge Springs, Pa., to Jeremiah and Sadie Harrington. She passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Odessa. She grew up in Detroit where she received her early education and subsequently her nursing degree from Henry Ford Hospital in 1943. At the close of World War II, she joined the United States Army Special Forces as a tennis professional and toured war-torn Europe in this capacity. Some time after returning to the United States, Mary continued her education at Baylor Hospital in Dallas where she received her certified registered nurse anesthesia designation in 1952. Mary came to the Permian Basin in the early 1950s, first serving Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center and soon thereafter Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where she practiced for over 25 years. As her lifelong avocation was tennis, Mary shared her love of the sport with many youth and adults alike, remaining an avid player herself until February 2001. In addition, Mary devoted her time to a multitude of civic causes. Among others, she served on the board of directors of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center, the Childs Play Inc. and the West Texas Jazz Society. Mary was a connoisseur of the Ellen Noel Art Museum. She also spent countless hours mentoring young people throughout the Permian Basin whose interests included sports and fine arts, and she enriched their lives as her presence has for years enriched the life of our community. Mary was born and raised Roman Catholic. She maintained a devout life of prayer and in later years found a spiritual home at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Odessa. Mary will be missed by a multitude of friends. To honor Marys wishes, no public service of burial will take place. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center, the Childs Play Inc., the West Texas Jazz Society, the Ellen Noel Art Museum, Satin Strings of Permian High School and Hospice House Foundation. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Guadalupe Miranda ALPINE Guadalupe Miranda, 78 years of age, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Imperial. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son and a sister. Survivors include her sons, Gilbert Miranda Jr. and Miguel Miranda, both of Alpine; daughters, Manuela M. Aguilar of Odessa, Christina Rodriguez of Odessa, Cecilia Dutchover of Alpine and Vicky Navarrette of Alpine; brothers, Carmen Betancourt, Salvador Betancourt and Jesus Betancourt, all of Odessa, and Gregorio Betancourt of Alpine; sister, Elidia B. Molinar of Odessa; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2001, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine. Pallbearers are Sammy Miranda, Leo Navarrette Jr., John Navarrette, Art Llanez, Ray Dutchover and Mare Miranda. Parker left this earth and his loving family Aug. 5, 2001. He was born Nov. 6, 1942, in Hobbs, N.M., and died at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland. He lived in Kermit with his wife and best friend of 13 years, Janie Bobbie Jane Parker. He retired after 30 years with El Paso Natural Gas Co. and was currently employed by Industrial Systems Associates in Jal, N.M. Sanford leaves behind a family who loved, adored and admired him, including his mother, Dorothy Perry, and stepfather, J.L. Perry of Hobbs. His children and grandchildren include Warren J. Parker and his wife Deborah, Joe Dan Parker and his daughter Taisha Parker, Cathryn C. McDonald and her daughters Aylssa Hunt, Baylie McDonald and Chelsea McDonald, Wendy Owen and her children Brent Owen and Talia Owen, and Cendy Antley, her husband Larry and their daughter Lauren Antley. Chapel services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, Aug. 7, 2001, at Cooper Funeral Chapel with graveside services immediately following at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mel Rodriguez, Gooser Armstrong, Warren Parker, Joe Dan Parker, Brent Owen and Larry Antley. Sanford will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. _________________________________________________________________ Edward R. Solley ODESSA Edward R. Big Red Solley, age 65, of Odessa died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at his home. He was born in Gorman to John and Ella Sparks Solley. Mr. Solley was raised in De Leon and moved to Odessa at age 12. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1954. He joined the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977 when he returned to Odessa. He married Pat Davis in 1999. He owned and operated Raney Safe and Lock Co. for 24 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Solley was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Lynn Solley in 1990. Mr. Solley is survived by his wife, Pat Solley of Odessa; son, Keith Solley of Odessa and Larry Solley of Granbury; stepsons, Luis Dominguez of Lake Jackson, Jeff Dominguez of San Antonio and Jeremy Dominguez of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Jadona Proffitt of Odessa; twin sister, Ginger Benton of Norfolk, Va.; brother, Lee Roy Solley of Stephenville; and numerous grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Dr. Griffin Jones officiating. Cremation has taken place.
