Dude Adkisson ODESSA Dude went to live with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Hospice Home of Odessa after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 10, 2001, at Osage Cemetery in Agra, Okla. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Wilber Dean Adkisson; a sister, Naomi; and a grandson, Johnny Adkisson. Grandpa never met a stranger. He was kind to everyone. He loved children, loved to make them smile and loved to make things to give to everyone he knew. He was truly one of a kind. I cant help but wonder if you are dancing a jig up there with your cowbell on. You were a truly beautiful person. Cant wait for the day you greet us in Heaven. You will always be our Pa Pa Lu Lu Man! We love you, Daddy, Brother, Grandpa and Friend. Dude is survived by his loving companion, Mary Brinlee; the mother of his children and lifelong friend, Barbara Marrs; two sons, Ronald and D.L. Adkisson Jr.; three daughters, Kay Hill, Dorothy Green and Patricia Scrogum; two brothers, J.H. and Jerald Adkisson; two sisters, Ruth and Ruby; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. The family asks that all memorials be sent to Hospice Home of Odessa. _________________________________________________________________ Natividad Armendarez Sr. ODESSA Natividad Jiner Armendarez Sr. has gone to see his maker Aug. 8, 2001. He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Ruidosa to Simon Vialba Armendarez and Dolores Jiner Armendarez. He had five brothers and two sisters. Brothers are Conrado Jiner Armendarez, Luis Jiner Armendarez, Fernando Jiner Armendarez, Citano Jiner Armendarez and Simon Jiner Armendarez Jr. Sisters are Chuy Jiner Rodriguez and Julia Jiner Ruiz. His family moved to Fort Stockton in 1936. Hs father was a sharecropper. They farmed cotton, onion and wheat. The family worked the crops to provide the necessities of life. He married Petra Uranga Subia on July 10, 1951. That same year they moved to Odessa. He and Petra brought three sons and three daughters into this world. They have 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Sons are Richard S. Armendarez and wife Rosalinda Armendarez, Natividad S. Armendarez Jr. and wife Florinda Armendarez and Raul S. Armendarez and wife Elizabeth Armendarez. Daughters are Estella A. Rangel and husband Samuel Rangel, Maria Elena A. Pallan and Alfonso Munoz and Diane A. Huerta and husband Carlos Huerta. Grandchildren are Ricky Jr., Esther, Cody, Tina, Tonya, Tammy, Bryna, Bianca, Jonathan, Erica Nate, Isaiah, Camilla Cheyenne and Patricia. Great-grandchildren are Anthony, Brandon, Brian, Samuel, Phillip and Elena. Our father worked in various construction companies in Odessa. He retired from the city Parks and Recreation Department after 19 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed life by always believing in God and always putting in a good days work. He loved to sing, tell jokes and rhyme. He also enjoyed working in his garden. He taught us the beauty and joy that comes from working a garden. He taught us if we cultivated and nurtured our garden, the rest would take care of itself. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. We were truly blessed to have him with us for all these years. He will be missed. We would like to thank Home Hospice of Odessa and also our family and friends for the support given to us during this time of sadness and celebration of life. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Lennie Bryant was born and raised in Arkansas. She moved to Texas in the 1930s. She married Albert Bryant in 1934. They both enjoyed working side by side on their farm. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to crochet, garden and go to arts and crafts shows. She also loved music. She took in and cared for many family members throughout her life. Going to church as a family was very important to her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Bryant, and son, Raymond Bryant. She was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Dallas County, Mo. Mrs. Elam moved to Odessa in 2000 from Tulsa. She was a retired secretary for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Okmulgee, Okla. She was Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Burton Elam. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gary Elam and wife Hermione of Odessa; daughter, Phyllis Davis and husband Phil of Kalamazoo, Mich.; brothers, Grover Morton and Myron Morton, both of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Fay Ensminger and Naomi Orabus, both of Baltimore, Md., Lily Conner and Vera Perkins, both of Kansas City; and seven grandchildren. He was born March 17, 1912, in Perry, Okla. He married Betty Inez Beshiers on Sept. 27, 1933, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She preceded him in death Sept. 16, 1999. Mr. Meisinger moved to Odessa in 1988 from San Diego, Calif. He was a business executive in the energy industry. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by his son, Phil Meisinger and wife Jane of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Don Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla.; and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Donald Dale Porter ODESSA Donald Dale Porter, 67, of Blanket died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1934, in Indian Creek. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. after 40 years. He was raised in Brown County and lived in Odessa from 1952 until moving back to Blanket in 1996. He married Rowena Moad on June 4, 1960, in Odessa. He was Baptist. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. He is survived by his wife, Rowena Porter of Blanket; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Kendal Smith of Brownwood and Cindi Linette and David Wilkerson of Odessa; four grandchildren, Angela Naquin and husband Corey of Louisiana, Jodie Crocker of Colorado, Justin Crocker of Texas and Cory Porter Wilkerson of Odessa; three great-grandchildren, Graham, Gabriella and Zoe, all of Louisiana; and two sisters, Virginia Farling and Faye Dorf, both of California. Arrangements by Davis-Morris Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ Randall Joe Braswell ODESSA On Aug. 7, 2001, a very special event happened to the Braswell family. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came to take Randy to the mansion He had prepared for him. Randy came to know the Lord in 1995. What a blessed day for the people who knew him, you know what I mean. Randy was a route salesman for Gandys Dairies, Holsum Bread and Schwanns Corp. for 19 years collectively before being disabled with multiple sclerosis. He later developed Beurgers disease. He was born in Mr. Hobbs, N.M., Jan. 1, 1953, and moved to Odessa in 1964 from Andrews. Randy graduated from Permian High School in 1971. He joined the U.S. Army in December 1972 and served with the 2nd Armored Division as tank commander until February 1977. He won several trophies for tank gunnery while there. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting arrowheads and sanding caves with his Dad and siblings. Another was camping and travels with his family. But the most favorite thing in his life was his Savior Jesus Christ, his wife and all of his favorite grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 10, 2001, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Randy was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. His father, L.K. Braz Braswell; his mother, Helen June Braswell; and his sister, Debby Lou Hill, preceded Randy in death. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sherry Sue Little Braswell of Odessa; son, David William Braswell of Odessa; daughter, Jolie Elizabeth Braswell Lee of Lubbock; stepmother, Polly Braswell of Odessa; brothers, Lester Braswell of St. Charles, Mo., Karl Braswell of Roscoe, Ill., Jimmy Braswell of Odessa and Danny Purdy of Joplin, Mo.; sister, Edna Braswell Conn of Odessa; three grandsons, Ian Cameron, 19, Christopher Michael (hey you), 9, and Vincent Evan (Bud), 6; six granddaughters, Ashley Miranda (favorite), 12, Heather Nichole (Nickel), 11, Jessica Nichole (Jess), 10, LeAna Yvette (Nana Ree), 9, Destiny Morgan (Morgan), 8, and Rhandi Jo (JoJo), 7; and his Italian greyhound, Ankhenaten (Ankh.); aunts and uncles; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces; and many many caring friends. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. _________________________________________________________________ John Gerald Jerry Riel MIDLAND John Gerald Jerry Riel passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital. He was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Hitchcock, S.D., to Albert and Stella Riel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 10, 2001, in the chapel of Ellis Funeral Home with the Rev. Ty Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Jerry was raised and educated in South Dakota. At the time of the Depression, he joined the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps), working in Spearfish Canyon, S.D. He later moved to Washington State to work at Carnation Dairy. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He married Leta Webb in 1945. They moved to Odessa that year and moved to Midland in 1958, starting their business, Jerrys Sheet Metal Co. Jerry was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Betty Freeman; and sisters, Alice Tollefson and Grace Brown. Survivors include his daughters, Susan Myers and husband Jerry of Odessa, Rebecca Hamm of Brewster, Wash., and Patsy Edens of Dallas. Grandchildren include Sam, Chris, Jeri Leigh and Josie Myers, Jeremy Hamm and Mark Edens. Jerry also had 10 great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are the Friends Who Care Group of Hospice of Midland and the Adult 1 Couples Sunday School Class at Crestview Baptist Church. Texas, Midland. _________________________________________________________________ Wanda Serna ODESSA Wanda Ramirez Serna, 88, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at a local hospital. Mrs. Serna was born Feb. 14, 1913, in Odessa to the pioneer family of Juan and Luisa Ramirez. They preceded her in death. She married Evaristo N. Serna in 1941 in Odessa and he preceded her in death in 1950. Wanda was preceded in death by her brothers, Sam Ramsey Ramirez of California and Joe Ramirez of Odessa; and her sisters, Mary Lopez, Felipa Hernandez, Marciana Ramirez, Jessie Lee Cobb and Julia Garcia, all of Odessa. She is survived by a son, John E. Serna of San Antonio; two sisters, Trixie Cobos and Frances Jordan, both of Odessa; three grandchildren, Juan Serna, Jorge Serna and Jasmin Serna; several nieces, Louisa Dietri of Germany, Judy Medina, Christie Ramirez, Debbie King, Tina Clifton and Cindy Perales, all of Odessa; and a nephew, Robert Cobos of Midland. A memorial rosary and Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at St. Marys Catholic Church with the Rev.
