August 14, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries _________________________________________________________________ 'Peggy' Lennie Mae Cook ODESSA Peggy Lennie Mae Cook, 78, quietly passed from this life and went home to be with her Lord on Aug. 11, 2001. She was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Douglas and married Joseph Louis Cook on Nov. 5, 1939, in Sebastian. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Aug. 14, 2001, at Tanglewood Church of Christ with Joe Cross and Roy Smalling officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Peggy was a dedicated Christian wife and mother who loved bringing people to Christ. In her early years, Peggy worked as a cashier for the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Beaumont. She loved helping others in need. Peggy was an avid gardener who enjoyed raising vegetables and fruit and then canning it or giving it away to others. Even in the last years of her life, she planted trees and a garden. Peggy had friends all over the state of Texas and the United States. Her door was always open to not only family and friends, but to anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Betty Rogers; her loving husband and best friend, Joseph Louis Cook; three brothers; and a sister. Left behind to cherish her memories are her four children, Ernest Cook and his wife Sue of Beaumont, Joe L. Cook and his wife Marsha of Odessa, Dwight Cook and his wife Debbie of Odessa and Judy Day and her husband Lynn of Austin; her sister, Dorothy Summa and her husband David of Harlingen; her brother, Edgar Rogers and his wife Ethel of Jasper; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other extended family. Active pallbearers will be Todd Cook, Lee Cook, Landon Cook, Peter Cook, Michael Mancias and Eric Steffens. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Weber, Don Miller and Bill Bowden. May her religious beliefs and good deeds remain in our lives always. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Odessa Christian School, Tanglewood Church of Christ or Victory Tree Childrens Home c/o Tanglewood Church of Christ. Eggleston, 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was born May 6, 1914, to William Franklin Eggleston and Sarah Elizabeth Casteel Eggleston in Denton. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Griffin Jones of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Mr. Eggleston married Leona Marie Williams on March 23, 1935, in Lamesa and moved to Odessa in 1939. He was a measurement specialist for Phillips Petroleum Co., retiring after 34 years. After retiring, he moved to Hemphill, returning to Odessa three years ago to live at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and carpentry work. His wife, Leona Eggleston; sisters, Myrtle Pugh and Georgia Rice; and brothers, Bill, Ottie, Emmitt and Earnest Eggleston all preceded him in death. Survivors include son, Ramon Eggleston of Hemphill; daughter, Patsy Fisher and husband Gene of Odessa; brother, Carl Eggleston of Odessa; sisters, Anna Bell Smith of Seminole and Ione Bradford of Lamesa; grandchildren, Joe Fisher, Sheryl Baker and Christie Powell; and great-grandchildren, Brent, Christopher and Audrey Baker and Dane and Victoria Powell.
