August 22, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Martha Loraine Larson ODESSA - Loraine Larson, age 84, of Odessa went to be with the Lord Aug. 20, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1917, in Mena, Ark., to William and Mae Tow. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She married Paul Larson June 27, 1936, in Chandler, Okla. They moved to Odessa in 1946, and she was a member of Vine Baptist Church. She was a bus driver for the Ector County Independent School District. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Loraine was a true angel here on earth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Larson Dec. 10, 1988. Mrs. Larson is survived by a daughter, Pat Solomon of Odessa; son, Robert Larson of Haslett; grandchildren, Karen Hobbs, Sharon Quador, Robbie Larson, Cindy Harrison and Annie Brizendine; and great-grandchildren, Seth Quador, Breanna Quador, Landon Hobbs, Katie Brizendine, Cole Brizendine, Evan Larson, Ryan Larson, Ashley Larson and Austin Harrison. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) Sybil Fain Vaughan ODESSA - Graveside services for Sybil Fain Vaughan of Odessa are scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Odessa Cemetery with the Rev. Rex Clayton officiating. Sybil was born June 19, 1911, in Comanche to Joe and Katie Aldridge. The family moved to Odessa in 1923. She grew up attending Odessa First Baptist Church where her father was a deacon and Rev. Marsh was the preacher. Later, she joined and faithfully attended Belmont Baptist Church, a neighborhood church started by Rev. Harrison. Seniors at Odessa High School, she and Jack Rusty Vaughan eloped in 1931. She returned to graduate under the persistence of Murry H. Fly, supt. of schools and a family friend. As a homemaker, she was active in church and her children's school activities and was a member of a local estention club. On retirement, Sybil and Rusty lived in Tow for approximately 10 years. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years; a young daughter, Mary Ann; an older brother, Ray Aldridge; and daughter-in-law, Linda Vaughan. She is survived by her son, Joe E. Vaughan of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Peggy Page and son-in-law, Harvey Page of Odessa; son, Tommy Wayne Vaughan and daughter-in-law, Laura of Mead, Wash.; sisters, Estelle Hughes of Georgetown and Thelma Jean Bevers and brother-in-law, Tommy Bevers of Salado; brother-in-law, B.E. Tubby Vaughan; grandchildren, Joe E. Florence Clark Vaughn ODESSA - Florence Clark Vaughn, 86, of Odessa passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa with her devoted family by her side. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kind and loving care given by the nurses, aides and all other support staff of Hospice House. Mrs. Vaughn was born March 7, 1915, the second of six children to Mae Davis Clark and Floyd Clark, a pioneer couple of Freedom, Woods County, Okla. Growing up in the western plains of Oklahoma, she established an outstanding school record in academics and served as captain of the girl's basketball team and led them to regional and state titles. She and her family were very involved in the many activities relating to the growth and development of their community. In 1935, Florence married Dillard D. Vaughn of Mayfield, Ky., in Alva, Okla. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Oklahoma City to begin a new business venture. In 1939, they moved to Burkburnett with their two young daughters, Barbara and June, to establish Vaughn and Taylor Construction Co. During those years, Florence was active in various community and youth oriented organizations. She served as Worthy Matron of her local Eastern Star Chapter as her mother and sister before her. As a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), she was a Sunday school teacher and served in other leadership areas of the church throughout her life. She was a dedicated member and past president of a local federated study club. In 1953, the family moved to Odessa. There, Florence continued her role as a loving mother and grandmother, a supportive wife and a gracious friend. She and her family enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico and spent many wonderful years entertaining other family members and friends at their ranch in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Florence was known affectionately as "Nana." Her quiet guidance deeply touched lives and kept her young at heart. She was always ready to give of herself to help others with poise and good humor through life's difficulties and with graciousness and hospitality in all the many joyous times. She was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, a cherished mother and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mildred Clark and Lou Crawford; a brother, Jim Clark; and a beloved son-in-law, Tom Warren. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Skelton of Odessa and June Perry and her husband Jim of Granbury; a sister, Freda Welch and her husband Cecil of Odessa; a brother, Ernest Clark and his wife Joyce of Shawnee, Okla.; five grandchildren, Tom Warren of San Antonio, Kelly Hunt of Wylie, Tracy Botik and her husband Joe of Lago Vista, Jeff Perry and his wife Carol of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Joel Perry and his wife Denise of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren, whom she adored; and many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart. Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at First Christian Church with Dr. David Mindel officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Warren, Jeff Perry, Joel Perry, Elwyn Smith, John Welch, Steve Watson, Rick Gilham and Brian LaTouche.
