Mrs. Vaughn was born March 7, 1915, the second of six children to Mae Davis Clark and Floyd Clark, a pioneer couple of Freedom, Woods County, Okla. Growing up in the western plains of Oklahoma, she established an outstanding school record in academics and served as captain of the girl's basketball team and led them to regional and state titles. She and her family were very involved in the many activities relating to the growth and development of their community. In 1935, Florence married Dillard D. Vaughn of Mayfield, Ky., in Alva, Okla. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Oklahoma City to begin a new business venture. She was a dedicated member and past president of a local federated study club. In 1953, the family moved to Odessa. There, Florence continued her role as a loving mother and grandmother, a supportive wife and a gracious friend. She and her family enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Mexico and spent many wonderful years entertaining other family members and friends at their ranch in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Florence was known affectionately as "Nana." Her quiet guidance deeply touched lives and kept her young at heart. She was always ready to give of herself to help others with poise and good humor through life's difficulties and with graciousness and hospitality in all the many joyous times.
