September 01, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Bertha M. Brown ODESSA - Bertha M. Brown, 84, of Odessa went to be with her Lord Aug. 30, 2001, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born March 28, 1917, in Okemah, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 1, 2001, at Bible Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Qualls and Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Brown, and a loving husband of 56 years, Perry N. Brown. She is survived by sons, Billy Brown and wife Sue of Graham, Ala., Perry Brown and wife Bonnie of Odessa and Jerry Brown and wife Cathy of Odessa; daughters, Nancy Easterling and husband Jack of Brownwood and Imogene Robertson and husband Sonny of Kilgore; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Jewell Brazelton ODESSA - Jewell Brazelton, age 73, of Odessa passed away Aug. 30, 2001, at his residence. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Sept. 1, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brazelton was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Philo, Ill. He served his country in the U.S. Army from April 13, 1948, until Aug. 1, 1972, having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a sergeant first class. He was a member of the VFW, DAV and Redman Lodge, and he loved to read. He was Methodist. He won the combat infantryman's badge, Medal of Commendation, Purple Heart from injuries sustained in Vietnam, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean SUCC Medal (three battle stars) and Vietnam SVCE Medal (three battle stars). Survivors include his wife, Bettie Brazelton of Odessa; son, John Brazelton and wife Nancy of Englewood, Colo.; daughter, Linda Page and husband Gary of Odessa; brothers, George Brazelton of Neoga, Ill., Jerry Brazelton of Monticello, Ill., and Joe Brazelton of Miami, Fla.; sisters, Katherine Kelly of Philo, Ill., and Betty Steel of Urbana, Ill.; grandchildren, James and Michelle Lewallen of Odessa, Christina and Curtis Matheny of Austin, Nicholas Brazelton of Denver, Colo., and Michelle Brazelton of Englewood, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Bethany and Brianna Lewallen. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
