September 07, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Floy Catherine Hawkins ODESSA - Floy Hawkins, age 87, of Austin died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Breckenridge Hospital in Austin. She was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Corell County to Fred and Betty Waddill. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Revs. Julian Davis and Verna Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was raised on ranches and farms in East Texas. She married William Bun Hawkins on March 9, 1933, in Coleman. They lived in Menard and then settled in Odessa in 1955. She was a member of Tree of Life Foursquare Gospel Church in Odessa. She spent many hours in prayer for those in need. She was the matriarch and backbone of the whole family. Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by her husband, William Bun Hawkins; son, Don Ray Hawkins; and a grandson, Jay Max Hawkins. She is survived by sons, Jerry Hawkins and Billy Hawkins of Odessa; daughter, Rita Belmore of Point Venture; nine grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren. (www.wilsonfuneral.com) Helen Grace Pettit ODESSA - Helen Grace Pettit, 86, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born April 21, 1915, in Sweetwater. She married William "Bill" Pettit on May 9, 1937, in Seymour. He preceded her in death March 16, 2001. Mrs. Pettit was a member of the Democratic Women's Club, Permian Basin Genealogical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Texas Old 300, Thursday Study Club and First Christian Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Carl S. Grover and Ila Patterson Goodwin; stepfather, Walter Goodwin; and brother, Pat Goodwin. She is survived by daughters, Sheridan Moore of San Antonio and Ann Hauber and husband Tom of Missouri City; sister-in-law, Joy Goodwin of Midland; five grandchildren, Margaret Mercer, Alice and Bill Moore and Kevin and Katherine Hauber; three great-grandchildren, Billy, Erin Ledbetter and Joseph Gross; and nephew, Mike Goodwin and wife Elisa of Houston. The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at First Christian Church. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. David Mindel officiating.
