September 14, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Roy Gene Strube ODESSA - Roy Gene Strube, 60, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at his residence. He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in Slaton to Florance and Esther Strube. During his school years, he was involved in 4-H. He graduated in 1960. He married Martha on Aug. 20, 1966. He came to Odessa in 1975 from Abilene. He worked in welding machine maintenance and was involved in Lubbock, Houston, and Abilene Liquid Air Sales. He gave his time, work and donations to Special Olympics and was a member of the Black Gold Chili Pod Club. His father, F.A. Strube, and brothers, L.C. and Allen Strube preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Martha Strube of Dallas; daughter, Shannon Garrett of Lubbock; mother, Esther Strube of Slaton; brother, Quinton Strube of Slaton; sister, Martha Ann of Grand Prairie; and three grandsons, Cody, Brandon and Mason Garrett. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Father Mark Woodruff officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at West Englewood Cemetery in Slaton with Father Roland Buxkemper officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ed Kelley, Anton Friske, Brian Strube, Thomas Strube, Chris Blanchard and Robbie Buxkemper. The family has requested memorials to Special Olympics. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
