September 30, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Dr. Shelby Lee Brumelle VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Shelby Lee Brumelle, 62, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, after a brief but courageous struggle with cancer. Memorial services were held Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver. Shelby was born in Oklahoma and raised in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1957. Shelby graduated from California Institute of Technology with a degree in mathematics and from the University of California at Berkeley with a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research. Shelby joined the faculty of Commerce, University of British Columbia, Canada, in 1969 as a member of the management science division (operations and logistics) and worked in that division as a professor emeritus until his retirement June 30, 2000. Shelby made many valuable contributions to the Commerce faculty through his scholarship, scientific publications, through teaching and supervision of students and through his administrative efforts including the chair of the management science division. His dedication to teaching touched and influenced many lives. He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Colin and Justin; his mother, Leota Brumelle of Odessa; and two brothers, Kendell of Evergreen, Colo., and Kenneth of Odessa. George Carroll Tucker ODESSA - George Carroll Tucker, 69, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Tucker was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Childress County to Curtis and Iola Tucker. He moved to Odessa in 1937 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Tucker married Ruby M. Birkhead on Jan. 18, 1953, in Paducah. He had been the owner of Tucker Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning for 17 years and was a member of the Texas Air Conditioners Contractors Association. He had been a faithful member of Bethany Christian Church for 39 years and served as chairman of the property committee, chairman of deacons and a trustee on the board. He will be remembered as a faithful family man. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ola Mae Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Tucker of Odessa; three daughters, Terri Francell and her husband Clay, Sharla Commers and Brenda Donner and her husband Barry, all of Odessa; two sisters, Betty Lou Gillam and her husband A.M. of Garland and Joann Bates and her husband Marcus of Odessa; and nine grandchildren, Heather, Lawrence, Cody, Christy, Curtis, Colton, Zebulon, Gideon and Ezekiel. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at Bethany Christian Church with the Rev. Rob Scofield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Community Care Hospice of Odessa, Bethany Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.
