All rights reserved ============================================================================================ November 11, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Stella Mae Murphy ODESSA - Stella Mae Murphy, 71, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 12, 1929, in San Angelo to William and Edna Stanford. Services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Greenfield Acres Baptist Church with the Revs. Clydell Chapman and Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Stella married Lee Roy Murphy on Nov. 3, 1951, in San Angelo. They moved to Odessa on Jan. 14, 1954. She was a member of the Ector County Sheriff's Posse. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Stella was the former owner of Ector Sanitation, retiring a year ago. Her husband of nearly fifty years, Lee Roy Murphy, and her parents, precede her in death. Survivors include son, Wesley Murphy and wife, Melissa, of Odessa; daughter, Edna Buck and her fiancé, Martin Potter, of Odessa; mother-in-law, Lizzie Murphey, of Odessa; sisters, Francis and husband, Jack, and Shirley Stanford, all of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Scotty Pence and wife, Tammy, Tiffany Davis, David Pence, Randi Murphy and Riley Murphy; and two great-grandchildren, Cade and Hunter Pence. Services are in the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Peggy Rutledge ODESSA - Peggy Rutledge, 88, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in a local hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Knox City, Texas to Henry and Lena (Hall) Smith. She was raised by her stepmother, Vera Smith in New Willard, Texas. Mrs. Rutledge moved to Odessa in 1935 where she was employed by Odessa's first hospital, The Headley Clinic. Later, she was employed by Dr. Allen Hayes as a private nurse until her retirement. Mrs. Rutledge is survived by three sisters, Corine Marbury of Houston, Ernestine Fountain of Nacogdoches, and Sherry Smith of Lyford, Texas; sister-in-law Francis Smith of Grand Prairie; beloved cousins, Luline Minshew and Donald Keith Minshew of Odessa and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, R.A. Smith and Henry Lester Smith Jr.; sister, Stella Smith Stearns; her first husband, Harold Morris and her second husband, Earl Rutledge. There will be a family visitation Sunday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Melvin Warren of the First Baptist Church officiating.
