Absher ODESSA - Dallas V. Absher, 88, of Odessa, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2001, here in Odessa at Hospice House. He was born December 6, 1912, to John and Eva Absher in Roscoe, Texas. Dallas married his wife of 61 years, Helen June Stevens January 14, 1941, in Sweetwater. He retired after 30 years of service as an oil field perforator with Ram-Guns. He enjoyed fishing, football and golf. He was an all around sports lover. Twelve brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Absher of Odessa; son, Ronnie Absher of Odessa; daughter, Lana Holcombe and husband Ray of Odessa; brother, John Henry Absher Jr. of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Trisha Taylor of Los Angeles, Ca, Shaun Duncan of Odessa, Resa Russell and husband Jay of Odessa, Vincent Absher and wife Melissa of Odessa, Jason Thornhill of Austin; great-grandchildren, Chloe Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif., Ashley Duncan of San Antonio and Parker Russell of Odessa. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Johnny Thomason of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 13th at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The family has requested memorials to Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas 79761. Services entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Karen Elaine Baumgardner ODESSA - Karen Elaine Baumgardner, 56, of Odessa passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 18, 1945 in Portsmouth, Ohio. She married Sonny Baumgardner on June 25, 1988, in San Angelo. She worked at Medical Center Hospital in the records dept. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She is survived by her husband, Sonny Baumgardner of Odessa; mother, Mildred Willis of Odessa; brother, Kenneth Sparks of Bullhead, Ariz.; and sister, Joyce Sirmon of Odessa. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.T. Pugh officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Bonnie J. Brown ODESSA - Bonnie J. Brown, 66, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Avalon Place. She was born August 23, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a Baptist and had worked for Henderson Drug from 1955 to 1958, Levines Dept. Store from 1958 to 1977 & First Republic Bank from 1978 to 1986. She later was a house sitter for the elderly. She is survived by two brothers, George Richard Brown and Milton Jet Brown, both of Odessa; three sisters, Ellen Louise Thorman and Patsy Jo Terry, both of Odessa, and Rose Ellen Murphy of Houston. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Fred A. Dodgen COLEMAN - Fred A. Dodgen, 85, of Coleman, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with Ronnie Lane officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Mr. Dodgen was born May 3, 1916 in Coleman and was a son of J.W. Dodgen and Birdie Mae Hipsher Dodgen. He grew up and attended school in Coleman. On Dec. 13, 1934, he married Doris Lee Duke in Brownwood and she preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1997. He was a supervisor of the City of Coleman during the building of the swimming pool at the City Park and the building of the first road to Lake Coleman. He served as a member of the Civil Defense and was Baptist. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Doris Lane and Gary Spurgeon of Coleman; one son, Loyd Melvin Dodgen of Burkett; one sister, Ruby Mae Clark of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Ronnie Lane of Odessa, Lori Lane Dempsey of Coleman, Jackie Dodgen of Burkett, Melinda Bledsoe of Valera, Craig Dodgen and Keri Dodgen Duerr, both of Irving, Tammy Spurgeon of Colorado and Kelli Sikes of Coleman; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Leroy Dodgen in July 1984; one brother, Jesse Le Dodgen and one sister, Mabel Sparkman, also preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. Janette Rayburn MIDLAND - Janette Rayburn was born October 13, 1919 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Harley Hays and Mary Rogers Hays. She moved to Midland in 1935 and graduated from Midland High School. She is retired from Women and Children's Hospital in Odessa. She was a member of First Christian Church in Midland. Survivors include her son, Ralph Rayburn and daughter-in-law, Linda Rayburn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and two daughters, Olivia Wilson of Midland and Pam Todd and son-in-law, Jim Todd of Odessa; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rayburn passed away Sunday, November 11, 2001, in a Midland hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2001, in Resthaven Memorial Park with Dr. Tommy Potter of First Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be directed to the American Heart Association, 3205 Cuthbert Ste. A-8, Midland, Texas 79705.
