All rights reserved ============================================================================================ November 29, 2001 Permian Basin Obituaries Obituaries Index Roy William Bagwell ODESSA - Roy William Bagwell, 78, of Odessa passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001. He was born June 28, 1923 in Wingate to William and Mable Bagwell. Services are scheduled for noon Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dean Kelm officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Roy married Venita Ficher Nov. 29, 1950, in Olfen. They moved to Odessa in 1951. He was in the Army Air Force during World War II, serving in North Africa and Egypt from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He retired from Amoco in 1984 after 33 years. He loved to travel and visit museums. Mr. Bagwell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Arlee Willingham. Survivors include wife, Venita Bagwell of Odessa; sons, the Rev. Jerry Bagwell of Fairfield and Dee Roy Bagwell of Odessa; brother, Bill Bagwell of Edmond, Okla.; three grandchildren, Ronnie Don Bagwell of Fairfield, Brett Austin Bagwell and Blair Ashton Bagwell of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Dorothy Elizabeth Bryan ODESSA - Dorothy Elizabeth Bryan, 92, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Sept. 19, 1909, in Springfield, Mo. She married Earl Bryan Nov. 15, 1931, in Las Vegas, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Bryan moved to Odessa in 1996 from Las Cruces, N.M. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. She is survived by two daughters, Quanah Lois Austin of Odessa and Pat Wright of Alice; five grandchildren, Brandee Austin, Kim Hill and husband Randy, Carrie Lynn Bedwell and husband Rusty, Leslie Neiman and husband Mike and Clyde Lee Wright III; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Jane Hill, Jeffrey Lee Hill and Will Bedwell. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at the Premont Cemetery in Premont with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Viola Soules Hodges ODESSA - Viola Soules Hodges, age 90, of Odessa died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at Seabury Nursing Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Mills County to Little Frank and Anna Soules. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Revs. James Otterness and Preston Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She came to Odessa from Lampasas in 1956. She married Wade "Hoover" Hodges Dec. 6, 1932, in Mills County. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was Baptist by faith. Mrs. Hodges is survived by a son, Wade Hodges and his wife Francene of Odessa; two daughters, Peggy Hodges Webb and her husband Lee Roy of Mansfield and Mary Weaver and her husband James of Odessa; a brother, Johnny Soules and his wife Florene of San Angelo; two sisters, Evelyn Kinchloe and her husband Rowland of Benbrook and Christine Boyken of Midlothian; a sister-in-law, Ruby Mae Soules of Coosada, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
