 Ronald "Ron" Gardner Reed
GARDNER, Kan. - Ronald "Ron" Gardner Reed, 75, of Wellsville, Kan., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Garden City, Kan., to Glenn McKinley Reed and Wilma Mayer Reed. He moved to Wellsville in 1984. Before moving to Wellsville, he had lived in Ottawa, Kan. He graduated from Galesburg Kansas High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. He was a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in broadcasting and communications. He married Ruth Keller Reed June 6, 1953, in Lawrence, Kan. He was a sales manager for KOFO Radio Station in Ottawa for 15 years. He reenlisted in the Navy for service at the Pentagon after leaving Ottawa.
He was a member of the 15th Street Church of Christ in Ottawa. He was also a member of the Ottawa Lions Club and Gardner American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and a sister, Iris Arnold.
Survivors include a son, James Patrick and wife Marilyn Reed of LeLoup, Kan.; a daughter, Karen Sue Reed of Odessa; a brother, Sam C. Reed of Austin; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner. Burial was at the Gardner Cemetery. Military honors were held at the graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home or 15th Street Church of Christ in Ottawa in care of Bruce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 192, Gardner, Kan., 66030.
