He was born Nov. 15, 1915, in Erath County. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Temple Baptist Church. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Bailey of Odessa; sons, Jerry Bailey of Odessa and Jimmy M. Bailey and wife Kay of Dublin; daughter, Judy Hudson and husband Terry of Odessa; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 20, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Victor Cemetery in Victor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House. Cordie Luvelle Key GRAFORD - Services for Cordie Luvelle Key, 86, of Weatherford will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at First Baptist Church in Graford with burial at McAdams Cemetery in Palo Pinto County. The Rev. O.D. Robertson will officiate. Arrangements by Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. Mrs. Key died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at a Weatherford hospital. She was born May 31, 1915, in Turkey, the daughter of Mark Buchanan and Flinnie Bell Stephens Slay. She married her first husband, Roy Max Moore on July 7, 1934, in Graham, and her second husband, James Arley Key on April 21, 1985, in Palo Pinto. She was a resident of Weatherford for 21 years. She was a retired Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike toll teller. She was preceded in death by her first husband Dec. 20, 1976; her second husband on June 7, 1997; and her daughter, Gwendolyn Colleen Scott. She is survived by her daughters, Imogene Hicks and husband James "Sonney" and Sandra Kay Byrd and husband Jerry Wayne Sr., both of Odessa; son, Roy Max Moore Jr. and wife Mary Ann of River Oaks; sisters, Willie Robertson of Iowa Park and Esther Mae Cofer of Lakeview; brothers, Leslie Slay of Palo Pinto and Jim Slay of Graford; eight grandchildren, Delbert, Vicki, Richard, Rebecca, Anna, Jerry Jr., Roy III and Jamey; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther Pauline Laird ODESSA - Esther Pauline Laird, 92, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Avalon Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 8, 1909, in Weatherford to John and Mary Cox. She was married Aug. 16, 1925, in Breckenridge to C.W. Laird. They came to Odessa in 1956 from Crane. She retired as kitchen supervisor for Furr's Cafeteria. She was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God. Her husband, C.W. Laird, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Laird and wife Ann of Odessa, Don Laird and wife Dorothy of Artesia, N.M., and Bill Laird and wife Darlene of Dallas; daughter, Virginia Smith of San Angelo; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Donald Ray Laird and the Rev. Kari Lee Smith officiating. The family requests memorials to Home Hospice and the Alzheimer's Association. Services were under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Elmer Joe Allen Moore ODESSA - Elmer Joe Allen Moore, 63, of Odessa passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born June 18, 1938, in Quanah. He married Joyce Davis on Aug. 4, 1962, in Quanah. Mr. Moore moved to Odessa in 1964 from Quanah. He was a truck driver and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Buler Moore, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Moore of Odessa; daughter, Claudia Friar of Amarillo; brothers, Melvin Moore of Chilli Santiago, Archie Moore, Calvin Moore and Elbert Moore, all of Odessa; sisters, Pearlene Houston of Vernon, Mae Francis Carr and Helen Moore, both of Quanah; and three grandchildren, Jasmyne, Jermell and Jamon Friar of Amarillo. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. R.T. McNeil officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Frances Lane ODESSA - Frances Lane of Eustace passed away Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, in Terrell. She was born July 7, 1921, in Henrietta, Okla. Frances was Church of Christ by faith. She was preceded in death by her son, Glen Lane. Frances is survived by her sons, Kenneth Lane of Odessa, Ronald Lane of Bedford, Sony Lane of Haslet and Johnny Lane of Christoval; daughters, Joyce Wade of Conroe, Murry Landrum of Eustace, Sandra Curley of Dallas and Katherine Lane of Houston; brothers, Vyron Carpenter of Weatherford, Herman Gorman of Germany and Patrick Senning of Cleburne; sisters, Bertie Jayroe of Houston, Irma Irwin of Kyle and Doris Senning of Wayton, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 20, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Chace Curley officiating. Jimmie Agee Smotherman CLAUDE - Mrs. Jimmie Agee Smotherman was born in 1916 in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934. She was the daughter of George H. Agee and Hattie Rue Agee. She married Dick Smotherman in 1952 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death March 23, 1994. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. Survivors include a son, Tom Pace and his wife Hazel of Odessa; a daughter, Sara Ann Ramsey of Odessa; five grandchildren, Ray T. Pace II, Kathleen Pace Tokheim, Melissa Ramsey McQuatters, George L. Ramsey and Barbara Pace Hirst; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions will go to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas, 79105-9975. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 20, 2001, at Claude Cemetery in Claude with the Rev. Raymond Bowlin, retired minister, officiating. The family will meet at the home of Kathryn Smotherman, 5300 Matador in Amarillo, prior to the ceremony. Genowefa Starnes ODESSA - Genowefa Starnes, 79, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at the Hospice House. She was born April 1, 1922, in Poland. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She married H.E. Starnes on Dec. 29, 1945, in France. She moved to Odessa in 1946. She is survived by her husband, H.E. Starnes of Odessa; son, Raymond Starnes and wife Barbara of Odessa; daughter, Mary Vanderburg and husband Danny of Odessa; two grandsons, Blaine Vanderburg and his wife Krista and Nathan Vanderburg; and great-granddaughter, Lily Vanderburg. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Rose Hill Cemetery with Father Mark Woodruff officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
