J.W. Hill Jr.
CARLSBAD, N.M. - J.W. "Jakie" Hill Jr., 50, of Carlsbad, N.M., a farmer, died 
Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. MST today at the Carlsbad Cemetery with the 
Rev. Paul Neuberger officiating. Arrangements by Denton-Funchess Funeral Home.
He was born in Brownfield and had been a resident of Dell City.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Laura Hill of Carlsbad; sons, J.W. "Joe" Hill III of Odessa; 
daughters, Rebecca Weems and Rita Kemp, both of Midland; mother, Lillie Hill of 
Dell City; brother, Michael Hill of Rowlette; and sisters, Annette Snodgrass of 
Dell City and Cathey Lou Hill of El Paso.

Joyce Hoskins
MONAHANS - Joyce Louise Hoskins, 72, of Monahans, a retired sales clerk, died 
Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will 
be at the Kermit Cemetery in Kermit. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.
She was born in Brown County and was a resident of Monahans for 20 years.
SURVIVORS: Son, Bradley A. Caven of Atlanta, Kan.; daughter, Brenda Wilson of 
Odessa; stepsons, George R. Caven of Missouri City, Mike Hoskins of Austin, 
Bradley Hoskins of Irving and Clifford Hoskins of Fort Worth; stepdaughter, 
Becky Houser of Cypress; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Brian Platas
ODESSA - Brian Christopher Jericho Esparza Platas was stillborn Sunday, March 
31, 2002, at Odessa Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the 
Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 10 a.m. today at 
Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home 
Angeles Memorial Chapel.
SURVIVORS: Mother, Melissa Platas of Odessa; brother, Devon Anthony Platas of 
Odessa; and grandparents, Henry and Connie Platas of Odessa.

Jake Stepp Jr.
ODESSA - Jake Levine "J.L." Stepp Jr., 81, of Odessa, a retired employee of 
American Bank of Commerce, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, at Medical Center 
Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. 
Steve Doines officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. 
Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Quanah and was a longtime resident of Odessa.
SURVIVORS: Daughter, Patricia Lynn Walker of Odessa; five grandchildren; and 
three great-grandchildren.

Essie Wright
IRVING - Essie Mae Wright, 96, of Odessa died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Irving.
Services are pending with Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
