Henry Howell
ODESSA - Henry Calvin "Shorty" Howell, 76, of Gardendale, retired owner of H.C. 
Howell Co., died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with 
the Rev. Melvin Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial 
Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Union County, Ark., and moved to Odessa in 1957 from Arkansas. He 
was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Janel Jennings Howell of Gardendale; daughters, Mary Elizabeth 
"Betsy" Rhodes and Laura Ann Ruddock, both of Odessa; sister, Allie Ruth Yates 
of Indio, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Mara Lewallen
STEPHENVILLE - Mara Nell Lewallen, 78, of Keene, a retired bank teller, died 
Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at West End Cemetery with Ralph 
Starling officiating. Arrangements by Stephenville Funeral Home.
She was born in Stephenville and had been a resident of Odessa. She was a member 
of the Church of Christ.
SURVIVORS: Son, James Knick Sr. of Cleburne; daughter, Dannie Pugh of Alvarado; 
stepson, C.H. Lewallen of Alpine; four grandchildren; and eight great-
grandchildren.

Gerald Livingston
MIDLAND - Gerald Austin Livingston, 64, of Midland, a retired employee of Arco 
Permian, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in 
Midland.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at Alamo Heights Baptist Church. 
Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.
He was born in Coffeyville, Kan. He was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Carol Livingston of Midland; sons, Edward Livingston of Reseda, 
Calif., and Brian Livingston of Midland; daughter, Cathy Livingston McKenzie of 
Austin; sister, Ester Joe Wilburn of Coffeyville; and two grandchildren.

Charles Mastin
ODESSA - Charles Anthony Mastin, 45, of Odessa, an oilfield roughneck, died 
Friday, June 14, 2002, at his residence.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Open Door Assembly of God 
Church. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Dallas.
SURVIVORS: Daughters, Nicole Ann Mastin and Christina Mastin, both of Odessa; 
parents, Chuck Mastin of Dallas and Patricia Weathers of Tyler; brothers, Roger 
Mastin of Odessa, Clay Mastin and Jeff Spruill, both of Dallas; sisters, Connie 
Mastin and Priscilla Weathers, both of Dallas; and two grandchildren.

Diana Smith
ODESSA - Diana Joy Smith, 41, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Friday, June 14, 
2002, at her residence.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel 
with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral 
Home.
She was born in Odessa. She was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Husband, Don Smith of Odessa; son, Chris Smith of Odessa; brother, 
Howard Duane Reynolds of Marion, Ind.; and sisters, Bobbie Jones and Whitney 
Gibbs, both of Dallas, Marie Milam and Zella Lippe, both of Odessa, and Lori 
Dean of Marion.

J.W. Taylor
ODESSA - J.W. Taylor, 87, of Odessa, a retired assistant superintendent for the 
West Texas area for Hunt Oil Co., died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Medical Center 
Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with 
Charles Jones officiating. Burial will be at 5 p.m. today at the Throckmorton 
Cemetery in Throckmorton. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Throckmorton.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Bernice Leota Taylor of Odessa; daughters, Mollie Marie 
Brittain of Eastland and Judy Kay Pomroy of Odessa; sister, Opal Loretta Bentley 
of Monahans; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-
grandchild.

ODESSA - Mya Jasmin Vasquez Carrillo, an infant, of Odessa died Tuesday, June 
18, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.

ODESSA - George Edward Jones, 86, of Odessa died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at 
Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
