Hortense Brock
ANDREWS - Hortense K. Brock, 88, of Andrews, a retired nurse's aide, died 
Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Permian General Hospital in Andrews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Andrews North Cemetery with 
the Rev. Walter Hunter officiating. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.
She was born in Abilene. She was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Grandsons, Benny Anderson of Canyon, Pat Thomas of Midland and Curtis 
Anderson of Dallas; and four great-grandchildren.
James Brownlee
ODESSA - James Charley Brownlee, 89, of Odessa, retired owner and operator of 
Brownlee Country Store, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with 
the Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. 
Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
He was born in De Leon.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Virginia Louise Brownlee of Odessa; sons, Arthur Joe Cherry of 
Carson, Calif., Gary Wayne Cherry and Troy Dean Cherry, both of Odessa; sister, 
Rachel Elizabeth O'Donovan of Levelland; four grandchildren; 12 great-
grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arturo Hernandez
ODESSA - Arturo Tercero Hernandez, 53, of Odessa, a retired roofing and 
construction worker, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be at a later date in Ojinaga, Mexico. Arrangements by Odessa 
Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
He was born in Los Alamos, Mexico. He was Catholic.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Jane Hernandez of Odessa; sons, Juan Carlos Hernandez Perez and 
Luis Hernandez Perez, both of Ojinaga, Mexico; daughters, Yesenia Hernandez 
Perez and Guadalupe Hernandez Perez, both of Ojinaga; father, Gregorio Hernandez 
of Ojinaga; brothers, Manuel Hernandez Tercero of Alamos de San Antonio, Mexico, 
Enedino Hernandez Tercero and Omero Hernandez Tercero, both of Ojinaga, Uber 
Hernandez Tercero of Presidio, Iglaser Hernandez Tercero of Midland and Gregorio 
Hernandez of Odessa; sisters, Elfida Hernandez de Hernandez and Hilda Hernandez 
de Uranga, both of Odessa, Angelica Hernandez de Valdez, Elena Hernandez de 
Hernandez and Ermelinda Hernandez de Rios, all of Ojinaga, and Marcela Hernandez 
de Leyva of Loveland, Colo.; and a grandchild.

Myrtle Shepherd
MARFA - Myrtle "Boyte" Barnett MacDonald Shepherd, 104, of Midland, a retired 
schoolteacher, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, in Marfa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church. Burial will be at the 
Marfa Cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.
She was born in Coleman County and had been a resident of San Antonio and Marfa. 
She was Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Son, Lloyd MacDonald of Midland; sister, Edith Everett of Aspermont; 
six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Melba Whitaker
PECOS - Melba Whitaker, 83, of Barstow, a retired teacher for the Pecos-Barstow-
Toyah Independent School District, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Home Hospice 
House in Odessa.
Services will be at 5 p.m. today at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jim 
Daniel and Darrell Wallace officiating. Burial will be at the Barstow Cemetery. 
Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
She was born in Electra and was a resident of Barstow since 1945. She was 
Baptist.
SURVIVORS: Sons, Woody Whitaker of Milton, Fla., Larry Wilkins of Houston and 
Pat Whitaker of Midland; daughters, Dalene Wilkins of Houston and Audie Lynn 
Whitaker of Barstow; brother, Shannon J. Darland of Mineola; 10 grandchildren; 
and 15 great-grandchildren.
