All rights reserved ============================================================================================ Thursday January 31, 2002 Myrtle M. Chandler CLOVIS, N.M. - Myrtle M. Chandler, 81, of Odessa, formerly of Clovis, N.M., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Hospice House of Odessa. She was born to the Rev. and Mrs. Price Bishop on Dec. 28, 1920, in Weatherford, Okla. Myrtle married John C. Chandler on May 28, 1938. John became a Baptist minister and Myrtle shared that ministry with him. John preceded Myrtle in death Jan. 22, 1970. They loved the Lord and loved their family. Myrtle is survived by all three of her children, Joyce Brookshire and her husband Alton of Odessa, Caleb Chandler and his wife Donna of Clovis and Wanda Russell of Las Vegas, Nev. She is also survived by 16 wonderful grandchildren; 20 lovely great-grandchildren; a beautiful great-great-granddaughter; her brother, Henry Bishop and sister, Louise Flower, both of Longview; and her sister, Juanita Hughes of Caldonia, N.Y. Myrtle married Rupert Stratton on Oct. 23, 1972. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1998. Myrtle took great pleasure in sending Bible scriptures to her family illustrating how they should live. Her Christian life was an example for all. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Odessa. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Central Baptist Church in Clovis conducted by Dr. Joseph Vest and Myrtle's grandson, Doyle Brookshire, youth minister of Grape Creek Baptist Church in Grape Creek. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Steed-Todd Funeral Home. Beulah Hagar MIDLAND - Beulah Hagar passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002. Beulah was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Southland, Garza County, to F.C. and Minnie Custer Collins. She was employed for several years by Brown Electric Co. of Odessa and retired from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth in 1983. During Beulah's life of over 86 years from childhood, her parents farmed near Patricia in Martin County until her last years after retirement. She lived a private life, holding true to her belief in self-reliance, not imposing on her brother and sister, but always concerned with their health and well being. She was a gracious lady who will always be remembered by her family, friends and neighbors. Her son, Darwin Lynn Ship; her brother, Lee Collins; and her parents preceded Beulah in death. She is survived by her brother, Ray Collins and his wife Ginny of Midland; a sister, Lucille Brown of Odessa; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. today, Jan. 31, 2002, at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Jan Reed officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Alexandra Lea Whitehead ODESSA - Alexandra "Alex" Whitehead, 2 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2002, at her home in Midland after a lengthy illness. Alex was born Nov. 19, 1999, in Odessa. She is the daughter of Kim and Jake Whitehead of Midland. Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Ray and Norma Alexander of Big Spring and Dan and Peggy Whitehead of San Angelo; great-great-grandmother, Genevieve Valladao of California; great-grandparents, Buddy and Bessie Whitehead of Odessa, Fern Alexander of Big Spring, Anita Nall of Mineral Wells and Nita Valladao of California; aunt and uncles, Christy and Kent Brown of The Colony and Wes Whitehead of Arlington; numerous great-aunts, uncles and cousins; and special caregiver, Yolanda Jimenez. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with Dr. David Ring, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Big Spring, officiating.
