All rights reserved ============================================================================================ Thursday February 14, 2002 James Walter Rowell ODESSA - James Walter Rowell, 40, of Austin passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in Austin. He was born April 29, 1961, to Walter and Alice Rowell in El Paso. He graduated from Permian High School in 1978 where he participated in the band. He attended Odessa College where he earned a degree in cosmetology. He had pursued a degree in medicine until he found he had an aversion to blood. He worked for Proteus in Odessa before moving away. He played the piano and organ. He had traveled and lived around the United States. His mother, Alice, preceded him in death. Survivors include his father, Walter Rowell of Odessa; companion, Kirk Cathey of Austin; and aunt and uncle, Anna and Irving Minchin of Rialto, Calif. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Feb. 14, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Tommy C. Jones ODESSA - Tommy C. "Uncle" Jones, 67, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Odessa. Tommy was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Brock to Charlie and Violet Jones who preceded him in death. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1958 and was the owner of Tommy's Trim Shop for many years. Tommy never married but adored his niece and nephew and their children. "Uncle" will be terribly missed by them. He is survived by his sister, Carol Steveson and husband Don; nephew, Fritz Purifoy; niece, Allana Athans and husband James; great-nephews, Clint, Mason and Grant; and great-nieces, Rylee and Kira. Sadly, Tommy was detained as a criminal when indeed his problem was a mental illness that he had suffered from for many years. Our hearts go out to others who might have a family member in this same situation, as it is devastating. Your pain is over, Tommy. Sleep peacefully. We love you. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Don Errol McCown Sr. ODESSA - Don Errol McCown Sr., 58, of Odessa passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002. He was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Big Spring to John and Jackie McCown. He attended Big Spring High School, Howard College and Texas Tech University. He married Joan Jordan on Jan. 6, 1963, in Big Spring. They lived in Lubbock for 10 years before coming to Odessa in 1976. He had served his country proudly in the U.S. Army for four years. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He worked for many years as a wine salesman for Pinkie's and spent a number of years in oilfield sales. Don Errol is survived by his wife, Joan McCown of Odessa; son, Don McCown Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Marley Williams and husband Tony of Odessa; mother, Jackie Church of Lubbock; brothers, Joe McCown of Mississippi, Johnny Ray McCown and Tom Jay McCown, both of Lubbock; sister, Nancy McCown of Lubbock; and grandson, Daven Williams. Memorial services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Robert Sams and Cheryl Homsher officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4901 Maple Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79762. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
