Permian Basin Obituaries Copyright © 1999-2002 Odessa American. All rights reserved ============================================================================================ Sunday March 03, 2002 Reba Francis Grimes LUBBOCK - Reba Francis Grimes, 91, went home to be with the Lord March 1, 2002, in Lubbock. Reba was born April 5, 1910, in Goldsboro. She married the former A.D. Grimes July 15, 1939, in Abilene. They resided in Abilene during the early years of their marriage. While a resident of Abilene, Reba worked as a telephone operator and at Mrs. Brown's boarding house. Several years later, they were blessed by the birth of their only child, Donna. The family moved to Odessa in 1957. Reba then devoted all of her time to the care and nurturing of her husband and daughter. After the marriage of her daughter and the birth of her two granddaughters, Reba spent time as a babysitter for the children of others. She accepted a nursery attendant position at Vine Avenue Baptist Church in 1960. Reba spent many years at Vine Avenue giving the same love and attention to the children of others that she had given to her daughter and granddaughters. After retirement, Reba spent her time caring for her husband and giving her time and energy in her neighborhood. She spent countless hours quietly helping others and was happiest when she could be of service to others. The final years of Reba's life were spent coping with the devastating results of Alzheimer's Disease. Reba handled the illness with the same quiet grace that she had lived her entire life. Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was loved dearly and will be greatly missed, but she has left us with the greatest gift of all, and that is her faith in God and Jesus Christ. Reba was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. Grimes, and brothers, Ray, Roy and Ted Dick. Reba is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and I.L.
