All rights reserved ================================================================================ Saturday April 06, 2002 Mary Helen Hoover MIDLAND - Mary Helen Hoover, 87, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at a local hospital. Services were Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Doyle Snow officiating. Interment was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur under the direction of Jackie Warren Funeral Home. Visitation preceded the funeral at the church. She was born June 25, 1914, in Haskell to John O. and Mary Caroline Chitwood and graduated from Haskell High School in May 1931. She received her bachelor of science degree from North Texas State University and attended Columbia University in New York City. She was a home demonstration agent and district supervisor of NYA Girls projects. She taught high school and elementary school in North Texas and Houston. On Dec. 20, 1939, she married David Ralph Hoover, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Law School and employed by Humble Oil Co. She served in community and church organizations and was active in genealogical societies. She was loved by many family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, a brother, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She is survived by a brother, James Osborn Chitwood of Dallas; three daughters, Martha Jane Turpen of Midland, Isla Mary Howard and Helen Elizabeth Brown, both of Arizona; a son, David James Hoover of Orem, Utah; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Daniel Harvey Palmer ODESSA - Daniel Harvey Palmer, 74, of Odessa passed away Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Hext. He married Willie McDowell on Nov. 3, 1952, in Menard County. Mr. Palmer moved to Odessa in 1952 from Menard. He was an executive for Ortloff Corp. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ida Palmer, and brother, Walter Palmer. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Palmer of Odessa; son, Greg Palmer and wife Peggy of Odessa; daughters, Danny Marlene Palmer Wall and husband Ray of Big Spring and Jennifer Lea Palmer Hensley and husband Bill of Odessa; sister, Ruby Reagan of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today, April 6, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johnny Young officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Josephine Majors Douglass RICHARDS - Josephine Majors Douglass passed away Thursday, April 4, 2002, after a lengthy illness. She was born July 10, 1920, in Queen City, Texas, to Julius E. and Lillian Hoke Majors. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School and a member of Bays Chapel Methodist Church. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland H. Douglass, and sister, Billie Sue Garner. She is survived by daughter, Deborah K. Douglass and husband Noel Blake of Odessa; sister, Maude Kasch of Big Spring; sister, Elizabeth Hale and husband Ira of Waco; nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Don, Katie, Charlcie, Dwight, David, Walter and Katherine; and a host of loving friends. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, April 6, 2002, at Earthman Hunters Creek Chapel, 8303 Katy Freeway, in Houston, Texas. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Bays Chapel in Richards, Texas, followed by interment at Bays Chapel Cemetery.
