All rights reserved ================================================================================ Sunday April 28, 2002 Phil Ed Scott MIDLAND - Phil Ed Scott went home to be with his Lord on April 25, 2002, in a Houston hospital after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson Disease (PD). He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Floydada, Texas, to Phil and Clara Lee Scott. At an early age his family moved to Abilene where he grew up and graduated from Wylie High School. From 1944 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 23, 1947, he married Mary Kathryn Carter in Hollywood, Calif., where they appeared on the Bride and Groom Show. After receiving a BBA degree from Hardin-Simmons University, he was called back into the Navy in 1950 during the Korean War and served 16 months on Guam. When discharged from the Navy he studied Engineering at Texas A&M University. Employed with Central Texas Iron Works for 32 years in Abilene, Amarillo and Midland, Phil was Sales Manager of the Midland plant when he retired. He was a member of Midland Downtown Lions Club and First Baptist Church of Midland, being very active in both until his illness. Ranching and raising Black Angus and Brangus cattle were his greatest enjoyments, as well as his annual Men's BBQ at the ranch. Survived by wife Kathryn; one daughter, Phyllis and husband Frank Gonzales of Newtown, Connecticut; one son, Thad and wife Kim Scott of Houston; two granddaughters, Alisha and husband Jeff Baergen of San Marcos, Regina and husband Jason Willoughby of Columbia, South Carolina; five grandsons, Phillip, Stephen, Caleb, Micah and David Scott of Houston; three great-granddaughters, Sierra and Melina Willoughby, and Rebecca Baergen; three brothers, W. J. Scott of Austin, Glen Scott of Del Rio, and Rex Scott of Azle; three sisters, Jean Ely of Abilene, Chris Merrill of Azle, and Mary Swofford of Clyde. One brother, Jon Paul Scott, preceded him in death. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30th at First Baptist Church of Midland with Dr. Gary Dyer officiating, assisted by Reverend Bob Hopkins. Pallbearers will be nephews. Interment will be at Rest Haven Mausoleum under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Virginia Ruth "Mur-Mur" Barlow ODESSA - Virginia Ruth "Mur-Mur" Barlow, 84, of Odessa passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, in a local hospital. Mrs. Barlow was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Healdton, Okla. Virginia was a beloved wife, mother and "Mur-Mur" to her adoring grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Aubrey K. Barlow; her three sons, Bob and wife Elizabeth of Odessa, Don and wife Lisa of Austin, and Tom and wife Carol of Houston; six grandchildren, Lesley and husband Dale Gnomes of San Francisco, Robert and wife Tasha Barlow of Austin, Ben Barlow of Sacramento, Calif., David Barlow of Odessa, Amanda Barlow of Austin and Taylor Barlow of Houston, along with her many dear friends and family. Virginia's first priority in life was her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, and her grandchildren, who were the treasures and pride of her heart. She was the center of the family with the spokes funneling out like a wheel, holding the family close to her heart. She was loved adoringly by her family and will be remembered for her wittiness, fun-loving nature, and deep passion for life. Murmur had a significant impact on the formation of the personalities and the lives of all of her grandchildren. She was a very protective, wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother to the end. She will be dearly missed. Although she was only 4-foot-11, her boisterous, fun-loving personality was always larger than life to all those around her. She was extremely generous to those friends who were fortunate enough to encounter this wonderful woman. She was overwhelmingly generous to those dear to her. She was a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and her Sunday school class at the First United Methodist Church. Public visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in the First United Methodist Church with the Dr. Steve Trout officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Dr. Philip L. Faulk ODESSA - Dr. Philip L. Faulk, 88, of Odessa passed away Saturday, April 27, 2002, in the Hospice House. Dr. Faulk was born April 17, 1914, in Yantis, Wood County, Texas. Dr. Faulk grew up in Sulfur Springs, Texas, and graduated high school there in 1932. He attended Capital College of Pharmacy and passed the State Board of Pharmacy in Albuquerque in 1938. He received a BS degree from East Texas State University and joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He worked in the pharmacy in the Fitzsimmons Hospital until his discharge in 1944. He later received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1947. He married Anna Kathryn Malone on Aug. 27, 1949, in Odessa. He began his dental practice in 1948 and continued to practice until his retirement in 1993 after 46 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a Past Master of McFarland Masonic Lodge, member of the Scottish Rite and Al Mida Shrine. Public visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family to receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Masonic graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Sybil Ann Lee ODESSA - Sybil Ann Lee, 80, passed away Friday, April 26, 2002, at Seabury Nursing Center. She was born June 27, 1921. Sybil was a member of the U.S.O. in Germany, where she married her husband, Noble Lee, on March 7, 1948. She moved to Odessa in 1969, and was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and traveling. She loved doing ministry work for her church, and took several overseas trips to South America and Australia. She was an accomplished artist and active with the Alzheimer's Association. Her parents and husband, Noble Lee, preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Gary Lee of Terrell and Terry A. Lee of Florida; daughter, Suzan B. Perry of New York City, NY; stepson, Robert E. Lee of Dennison, Texas; brothers, Dwight and Roger Perry, and sister, Dorothy Perry, all of Massachusetts; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made in Sybil's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
