Hutchison, 80, a resident of Odessa for more than 50 years, passed from this life to a better life at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Lexington to James and Louise Hutchison, who preceded him in death. Two brothers, James Hutchison Jr. and Melvin Hutchison; son, Eugene Hutchison; and daughter, Beverly Henderson also preceded him in death. L.C. was a retiree of Meither Bearing Machinery. He was an active member of the Church of Christ until his illness. He held offices in the church as a trustee, deacon and treasurer. He was a board member of the Gertrude Bruce Cultural Organization and a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He leaves to mourn his departure a loving, caring wife, Beulah Hutchison of the home; brother, Minister R.C. Hutchison of Midland; two caring and supporting sisters-in-law, Loretta Hutchison of Waco and Mrs. A.B. Sims of Palmdale, Calif.; three daughters, Ruby Robertson of Houston, Marva Ross and Willene Washington, both of Odessa; sons, Larry Dean Sims, Lawrence A. Sims and Arthur Maurice Sims, all of Houston; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great- great-grandchild; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, May 4, 2002, at Highland and Bunche Street Church of Christ with Gene Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Marian H. Mathews ODESSA - Marian H. Mathews, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2002. She was born March 18, 1928, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Robert and Willa Montgomery. She graduated valedictorian from Broken Bow Junior High where she was an avid reader and played the trumpet and French horn in the band. Her family moved to San Antonio where she graduated from Breckenridge High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she met her husband, Forest H. Mathews. They married May 29, 1949, in Odessa and had been married for 52 years. While in Austin, she worked fulltime for Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. In 1950, they moved to Odessa where she was a substitute teacher for the Odessa school system for five years. A Christian since 9 years of age, she was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught preschoolers for many years and rang in the handbell choir. Her hobbies included sewing, reading and play duplicate bridge, for which she had been awarded Life Master in 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Robbie Longmire. She is survived by her husband, Forest; daughters, Julia Sorbers and husband Jack of Houston and Celia Ray and husband Mark of Temple; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. A private interment will follow at Ector County Cemetery. Services entrusted to Frank W. Dwain William Mason MONAHANS - Dwain William Mason, 74, of Monahans died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Hospice House in Odessa after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at 1:15 p.m. today, May 4, 2002, at Monahans Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Box officiating. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Monahans. He was born Jan. 7, 1928, to Charlie and Trudy Mason in Best. He married Margaret Osteen on Aug. 16, 1947, in Monahans. He retired from Dow Chemical Co. in 1985. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Monahans. Dwain was a loving husband, father and PaPa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mason of Monahans; sons, Stephen Mason of Euless and Anthony Mason of Monahans; daughter, Becky Rogers of Monahans; brother, Danny Mason of Lubbock; sister, Lena Davis of Mesa, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Nathan Rogers and Nikki Rogers of College Station, Brittney Mason and Chase Mason of Dallas and Chris Mason of Midland.
