McDaniel ODESSA - Christianity does not exempt one from death. It only ensures triumph over death. Moses died, Paul died, Jesus died, and all must die. There is no other way of entrance into our heavenly Father's house. Derwana V. McDaniel, daughter of the late Robert Quarker and Lessie Sims, was born May 9, 1976, in Midland. Derwana was a faithful member of Greater St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church until leaving Odessa to attend college where she united with Greater Faith Baptist Church in Mesquite. Derwana graduated in the top 10 percent of her class from Permian High School in 1994. She received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from DeVry Institute where she met and married Johnny E. McDaniel on July 12, 1997. Preceding her in death are her daughter, Devro McDaniel; father, Robert Quarker; paternal grandfather; maternal grandmother; two uncles and one aunt. Derwana leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Jathan McDaniel and Quadrick Walker, both of Garland; her loving mother, Lessie Sims; stepfather, the Rev. C.E. Sims, both of Odessa; a brother, Ron Quarker of Midland; grandfather, Lawrence McMaryion and wife Ola Mae of Compton, Calif.; grandmother, Annabelle Quarker of Atmore, Ala.; great-great-aunt, Paira Lee McCulloch of Los Angeles; three nieces, DeShalia Quarker of Odessa, Rionna Quarker and Nykeah Quarker, both of Midland; two nephews, Shakahn Quarker and Kasual Quarker, both of Midland; a godchild, Quinqueiara Dewberry of Odessa; a host of loving aunts, uncles and relatives; and countless friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Greater St. Luke Baptist Church with the Revs. Joe L. Terry Sr. and Joe L. Terry Jr. officiating.
