Houston, our beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandma and granny, slipped into the arms of Jesus and walked the streets of gold with her sweetheart Monday, May 20, 2002, at Hospice House after a sudden illness. She was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Garland to William R. and Pauline Brown. She graduated from high school in Jal, N.M., and attended Business College in Lubbock. While in Lubbock, she married Kendall Chandler Houston on Dec. 1, 1941. Their love and lives were an inspiration to us all. He preceded her in death Oct. 6, 1997, and had waited for her to join him in heaven. This she did and was evident when she left this world by the beautiful smile and glow that came on her face. Mom was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church, Eastern Star and local Poetry Society. She has a published book of poetry titled "A New Day" and has written and published several songs. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Susan Langley and husband Ronny of Odessa; her son, Kendall C. Houston Jr. and wife Lynn of Karnes City; three grandsons, Dennis Houston and wife Monica of Odessa, Chandler Langley and wife Rebecca of Watauga and Mike Houston and wife Melanie of Houston; a granddaughter, Heather Morgan and her only great-grandson, Aaron Morgan, who was the apple of her eye; a sister, Beatrice Martin of Ben Wheeler; and a brother, Von Rae Brown of Yucca Valley, Calif. She also had several nieces and nephews as well as many friends. She adored her entire family and the feeling was certainly mutual. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002, at Sherwood Baptist Church with Brother Tom Hiser officiating followed by graveside at 2 p.m. MST at Lovington Cemetery in Lovington, N.M. The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Darla Walden, registered nurse, and Dick Brown at Home Hospice as well as the entire staff of Hospice House. You truly do "love people until God sees fit to call them home." May God richly bless each of you. The family requests memorials be made to Hospice House. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Billy Williams ODESSA - Billy Mack Williams, 76, of Odessa passed away Monday, May 20, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital.
