Permian Basin Obituaries Copyright © 1999-2002 Odessa American. All rights reserved ================================================================================ ============ Thursday May 23, 2002 Obituaries Sarah Martha Callaway ODESSA - Sarah Martha Callaway, precious mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandma and sister, daughter of Fred and Ella Berry, both of whom went to be with the Lord before her, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2002, after a long battle with cancer. During this time, her faith in God never faltered. She never ask "Why me Lord?" She took what she was handed, smiled and prayed daily for every member of her family. Sarah was an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Her hospice caretakers were amazed at her attitude. They never saw her without a smile or a friendly word, even on her worse days. Sarah was born May 24, 1914, in Cement, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1935. She married Howard Callaway in 1950 and moved to Monahans. From there, they moved to San Angelo where they lived for the next 35 years. She returned to Odessa in 1995, when Howard got sick and she needed help to care for him. She laid him to rest April 17, 1996. Sarah leaves behind two daughters, Carol Scott of Harlem, Ga., and Betty Smith and husband Bill of Odessa. Carol and Betty gave Sarah six grandchildren, John Scott, Martha Isner, Tony Pavlas, Ronda Holminski, Sarah Allison and Holley Meeks; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Ray Berry and wife Hazel of Navasota and Tex Berry and wife Evelyn of Odessa and three sisters, Vashti Willis, Marjorie Stubblefield and Corine Berry, all of Odessa. She was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a stepdaughter. Our deepest thanks and gratitude to her Home Hospice caretakers Holley Baron, RN; Darla Walden, RN; Caren Anderson, CNA; and T.J. Palmer, CNA. I don't know how our family would have made it through the last year without these ladies and this hospice program. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1101 N. Lee Ave., with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
