All rights reserved ============================================================================================ Friday May 24, 2002 Obituaries Maria Margarita Estorga ODESSA - Maria Margarita Estorga, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at her residence. She was born April 9, 1921, in Redosa to the late Pioquinto and Silvestra Estorga. She was a Catholic and a housekeeper. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Macario Estorga and Merardo Estorga. She is survived by a son, Guadalupe Ysalde of Monahans; a daughter, Olivia M. Ortiz of Odessa; a sister, Susanna Tarin of Odessa; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Rosary will be said today, May 24, 2002, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Pablo Tiong officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services by Odessa Funeral Home. Lady Faye Gallaway CRANE - Lady Faye Gallaway, 93, of Crane died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Desert View Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 24, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Craig and Raquel Mull officiating. Burial will follow at the Crane County Cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home. Mrs. Gallaway was born Dec. 20, 1908, in Corsicana. She had been a longtime resident of Crane. She had been a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church where she had been the organist and pianist for over 70 years. She was a member of the Crane Senior Citizens, and she was selected as the first First Lady of Crane. She taught many piano students through the years in Crane. She is survived by numerous cousins; special friends, Wanda and Joe Henderson, Marissa and Joe Henderson of Crane, Marvin Daniel of Crane and Carol Galindo and family of Crane; and her church family. Norma Lea Mailea ODESSA - Norma Lea Mailea, 80, of Odessa passed away Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Hospice House. She was born March 29, 1922, in Newkirk, Okla. She married George Mailea Feb. 14, 1946, in Ponca City, Okla., and moved to Odessa in 1960. She was a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Rape Crisis Center, Woman of the Year for the Literacy Program and also a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son, Steve Mailea of Odessa; daughter, Karen Wilcox of Odessa; and three grandchildren, Christina, Matthew and Megan. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dean Kelm officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice House. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. John E. Bauman, M.D. ODESSA - John Bauman was born in Chile, the son of Methodist missionaries. They returned to the States when he was 8 and settled in Fort Morgan, Colo. John did his undergraduate work at the University of Denver, graduating from the Colorado School of Medicine in Denver in 1942. His internship and residency were completed at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, settling on obstetrics and pediatrics. Dr. Bauman moved to Odessa as the OB man in 1948 for Headlee Clinic. He was associated with Dr. Headlee until his death, and the clinic was then dissolved. He remained in the building until it was purchased by the city for the library. He then relocated to an office on North Texas Street. Dr. Bauman delivered 11,263 babies in Odessa, not including the ones he delivered for indigent parents at Medical Center Hospital. He was a charter member on the staff of Medical Center and Women and Children's Hospital. John had always been a leader, and one of his best attributes is that of being a mediator. He was chief of staff at both Medical Center and Women and Children's Hospital, now Odessa Regional Hospital. He was president of the following organizations throughout his life in Odessa: Six County Medical Society, Child Welfare Board, Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, Knife and Fork Dinner Club and the Odessa Chapter of Gideons International. Dr. Bauman always taught a Sunday school class at First United Methodist Church in Odessa in either the youth or adult departments. He served on the church's boards and committees through the years. He helped establish other Methodist churches in the area. John was a Cub Scout Cubmaster and one time Boy Scout leader. He had always been vitally interested in the Odessa Symphony and especially the Young Artists Competition. He had been a patron of the Globe Theatre and supported the endeavors of the Permian Playhouse. He is survived by Evelyn Watkins, whom he married March 21, 1942, in Denver, Colo. He is also survived by his four children, Richard Bauman of Katy, Janet Read of Lufkin, Dale Bauman, M.D., of Shreveport, La., and Sheryll Bunt of Irving. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Erin Bogar, Erik Bauman, David Bauman, Chris Bauman, Beth Bauman, Lauren Read and Stephanie Bunt; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Bogar and JohnMark Bogar; a sister, Margaret Rickard of Golden, Colo.; and a brother, David Bauman of Loraine, Ohio. Public visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
