Barnett, 75, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his home in Odessa. He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Comanche, Okla. He worked in the oilfield for several years. He worked as a pipefitter in construction. He was a pipefitter and a member of United Association since 1952 where he served on various boards. He served as business agent between 1982 and 1991 for local 239 until his retirement. He was Baptist. Two grandchildren, Tonya Chambers in 1967 and Ricky Chambers in 1988; a brother, Alvin Ray Barnett; and two sisters, V.E. Brown and Bernice Wysong preceded him in death. Alton is survived by his wife, Dora Lee Barnett of Odessa; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Marice Barnett of Odessa; daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Van Chambers of Cisco, Kay and Ray McCubbin of Dardanelle, Ark., Carolyn and Bobby Patterson of Kenai, Alaska, and Judy and Dewayne Parker of Odessa; six grandchildren, Kim and Gary Speegle, Alton Ray and Tabithia McCubbin, Brian and Kim McCubbin, Scott and Suzanna Patterson, Jeff and Tina Patterson and Tonya and Riley Hunter; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rena Mae Jones of Comanche, Okla., and Durlene and John Morris of Odessa; sister-in-law, Ann Barnett of Odessa; brothers-in-law, Tommy Olson and Willard Olson; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Alton's loving nurse, Daphine Bailey, and his special and loving caregiver, Sabrina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Star Hospice of Odessa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Dorothy Byrd EASTLAND - Dorothy Nell (Dobbs) Byrd went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 24, 2002, from her last residence in Denton. Born Dec. 12, 1925, in Kosse, Limestone County, Dorothy was raised in Eastland. She later attended Draughn's Business College, which prepared her for an illustrious career in accounting. Many friends will remember her work at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa for over 20 years. She had been a resident of Odessa for over 30 years and was a member of the American Business Women's Association, the Medical Center Hospital Women's Auxiliary and Crescent Park Baptist Church. At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Eastland. Dorothy married James Ford Byrd in 1943, and they moved to West Texas in the early '50s to rear their three children in the first gated communities, El Paso Natural Gas' camps. "The best place one could raise children," she often said. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron Ellis Dobbs and Iva Lee (Nixon) Dobbs; her two brothers, Wallace Aaron Dobbs and Bobby Gene Dobbs; her first husband, Ford; her second husband, Connard Neil Ellis of Odessa; and son-in-law, Bill Mullenweg. Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Darlene Mullenweg, Derrell Byrd and his wife Margaret and Deborah Roach and her husband Denny; nine grandchildren, Lynn Davenport and husband Chad, Mike Mullenweg, Jeannie Hopkins and husband Shane, Tressa Clarke and husband Blair, Eddie Byrd and wife Amanda, Dr. Jay Roach and wife Debbie, Carrie Hopkins and husband Neil, Kelley Kacal and husband Mike and Jennifer Collazos and husband Dave; 13 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, John Connard, Austin, Hannah, Madison, Taylor, Bailey, Mason, Morgan, Kelsey, Abbey and Sydney; sisters-in-law, Eloise Lowrance Dobbs, Bobbie Pittman and husband Luce and Patsy Hogan and husband Lynn; several nieces and nephews; and her extended Ellis family. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Bakker Funeral Homes Chapel with Neal Weaver officiating. Internment was at Flatwood Cemetery. Aurora 'Lola' Hernandez Hinojos ODESSA - Aurora "Lola" Hernandez Hinojos, 73 years of age, of Odessa passed away May 26, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1929, in Big Spring to Manuel and Andrea Hernandez. On March 8, 1950, in Presidio, she united in marriage to Jesus Amancio Hinojos Sr. To this unification was born four children. Mrs. Hinojos was a housewife and a Catholic. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Jesus A. Hinojos Sr. of Odessa; son, Jesse H. Hinojos Jr. and wife Dolores of Midland; daughters, Irma Y. Hinojos of Odessa, Romelia H. Martinez and husband Ruben of Odessa and Elva H. Hernandez and husband Johnny of Odessa; brother, Ruben Hernandez and wife Francis of Presidio; sister, Virginia Hernandez of Presidio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, May 29, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Hinojos, Jeffrey Hinojos, Eric Hinojos, Benjamin Martinez, Rolando Hernandez, Steve Greenhill, Salvador Hinojos Jr. and Larry Molinar. Services by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel. Bobby Ray Peeples ODESSA - Bobby Ray Peeples, 73, of Odessa passed away Monday, May 27, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Tula, Miss. He graduated high school in Andrews and married Loretta Carter on Aug. 27, 1950, in Andrews. They moved to Odessa in 1972. He worked for AMOCO Petroleum Co. for 39 years before retiring as an operations technician. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church for almost 30 years. Bobby never met a stranger and will be missed by a host of friends. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Peeples of Odessa; sons, Bobby Peeples and wife Martha of Houston and Alan Peeples of Odessa; daughter, Carla Hayes and husband Raymond of Odessa; brother, Joe Peeples and wife Ora of Roswell, N.M.; sister-in-law, Joy Peeples of Abilene; and five grandchildren, Tamra and Bridget Peeples, Summer and Christopher Hayes and Janette Peeples. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Sherwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Hiser and Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Old Andrews County Cemetery in Andrews under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
