All rights reserved ============================================================================================ Friday May 31, 2002 Obituaries Maye Oura Hale 'Grannie' Clark ODESSA - Maye Oura Hale "Grannie" Clark, 90, of Odessa passed away at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Sayre, Okla. She was the third of 11 children and weighed about 2 lbs. at birth. The doctor said that she would not survive. Her parents, James A. and Mary Julia Hale, moved to West Texas and settled in Morton in 1928. Maye graduated valedictorian from Morton High School. She married Paul Hayden Clark in 1934, and they had three children. She was a Christian and a member of The Church of The Way, Truth and Life. Maye moved to Odessa around 1957. She was a generous giver and gave to all that visited her. Maye used her time at home gardening, sewing, baking bread, refinishing antiques and being Grannie to all that needed her. She loved the Lord, her children, grandchildren and all the neighbor children. Everyone affectingly knew her as Grannie. Maye's indomitable spirit was an inspiration to all, for the courage and determination she showed in overcoming the many challenges and hardships in her life. A sweet and forgiving spirit, she was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Hale; brothers, Joseph Andrew Hale, Roy Lee Hale and James Floyd Hale; and sisters, Mary Ellen Turner, Opal Marie Hale and Bettie Hale. Survivors are sisters, Lillie Irene Turney of Dallas, Elizabeth Herring of Sugar Land, Nola Graves of Lubbock and Ola Layton of Plains; three children, Polly Fern Felkins of Odessa, Mary Joyce Hughey of Comstock and Paul Hayden Clark Jr. of Odessa; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and 15 living nieces and nephews. Maye "Grannie" was assisted by Dr. Dar at The Naidu Clinic. We would like to thank all the aides, volunteers, nurses and chaplain at Odyssey Hospice. We would like to give a special thanks to Manuel Rios and Brother Raymond Bugg. They were kind and caring to her and ministered to her family. Funeral services have been scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at The Church of the Way, Truth and Life, 2806 W. University Blvd., with Paul H. Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Jerry Creager COLORADO CITY - Mr. Jerry Creager, age 63, of Colorado City died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at a San Angelo hospital. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Creager was born Aug. 10, 1938, in Crosbyton to Earl and Elsie Christian Creager and had been a resident of Colorado City since 1990. He married Carolyn Warren on May 17, 1960, in Fort Stockton. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Jerry was an educator, not only in the school system, but to anyone willing to learn. The respect and values that he reflected on the golf course were true testaments of his life. He loved high school football because of the purity of the young men that played with their hearts, not for a salary. Jerry was a friend to many and never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by everyone that his friendship touched. A very special thanks to all the faculty of Fairview Accelerated Education Coop and Wall Independent School District. He loved you all very much and God bless each and every one of you. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Sherrell. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Creager of Colorado City; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelley and Becky Creager and their children, Jennifer and Matthew of Kermit; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jerry Jones and their children, Lindsay and Kelley of Oahu, Hawaii; and three brothers, Earl Creager Jr. of Hobbs, N.M., Royce Creager of Mentone and Don Creager of Kermit. Rawleigh H. Duncan SAN ANGELO - Rawleigh H. Duncan was born July 7, 1926, in McCullough County to the late Oran Washington Duncan and Jennie Gattis Duncan. He passed from this life Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at his home in Odessa. Mr. Duncan was well known in the livestock trucking business where he was self-employed for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home with Mr. Frank Berthold of the Northside Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Eldorado Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Duncan of Odessa; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and James Woodfin of Midland; sons, Steve Duncan of Odessa and David Duncan of Tucson, Ariz.; stepdaughters, Nancy Turner and her husband Kenneth of Odessa and Judy Allgood and her husband Dee of Annapolis, Md.; sister, Pearl Bolt of Eldorado; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Hernandez ODESSA - Tomas G. Hernandez, 52, of Odessa passed Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his residence. He was born Dec. 29, 1949, in Leming. He moved to Odessa in 1982 from Seagraves. He was a truck driver for United Fuels and a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. His greatest life accomplishment was exemplifying the virtue of fatherhood to the best of his ability in raising three sons, Tommy, Paul and Rocky Hernandez. He took pride in the fact that his oldest son Tommy was a good husband and a good father and was dedicated to his job with AT&T where he had reached management level. He was proud that his son Paul honorably served in the U.S. Army, then went on to graduate from Harvard University. He was happy that he was able to offer his youngest son Rocky the guidance to succeed in life and was confident that a bright future awaited him. He is survived by three sons, Tommy Hernandez and wife Alma of Sweetwater, Paul Hernandez and wife Anna of Odessa and Rocky Hernandez of Odessa; brothers, Steve Hernandez Jr. of Lubbock and Felipe Hernandez of Union; sisters, Mary Ann Ontiveros of Brownfield, Rose Munoz of Hobbs, N.M., Mary Brionez of Seagraves, Stefana Aguilar of Seagraves, Carolyn Patterson of Mansville and Olivia Huron of Pleasanton; and six grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, May 31, 2002, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Pablo Tiong officiating. Ray Vasquez Jr. ODESSA - Ray Vasquez Jr. of Odessa died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in Odessa. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was born in Odessa and was a lifelong resident. He was Catholic. He is survived by his wife, Margie Vasquez of Odessa; parents, Ray Vasquez and Margie Vasquez, both of Odessa; sons, Joe Ray Vasquez and Andrew Vasquez, both of Odessa; grandmother, Juanita Vargas of California; and three brothers, Ruben Vasquez of Midland, Eric Vasquez of Fort Worth and Daniel Vasquez of Odessa. 'Dee' Johnson ODESSA - William Harvey "Dee" Johnson of Odessa was reunited with our Father and his loving wife, Janice, as he began his eternal rest Wednesday, May 29, 2002. Graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. A brief reception is scheduled immediately after the service at the on-site chapel. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Dee was born May 19, 1920, in Cordell, Okla., to Cora Ann and James Franklin Johnson. He married Janice Wells in November 1952 and celebrated almost 47 loving years together. Janice preceded Dee in death Nov. 22, 1999, and was the absolute love of his life. Dee worked the West Texas oilfields as a driller from 1940 to 1942 and entered the military in 1942 to proudly serve in the 21st Naval Combat Battalion, more affectionately known as the "21st Seabees." Upon his return to civilian life, Dee joined the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1973. Dee is survived by his niece, Pat Mascarella of Buena Park, Calif., and her sons, Vance Page of Fort Worth, Paul Mascarella of La Palma, Calif., and Carl Mascarella of Corona, Calif., and their families. He is also survived by his niece, Terri Enloe of Marble Falls, and his sister-in-law, Lou Wells of Odessa. Dee adopted and was adopted by his extended families on Conley Avenue, which will dearly miss him. Pallbearers will be Kent McCord, Wayne Ray, Larry Holcomb, Don Coleman, Trent Norman and Jayden Norman. Honorary pallbearers will be Dee's "adopted" grandsons, 10-year-olds Jacob Wood and Trevor Norman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Home Hospice and The Hospice Home Foundation of Odessa. Dee, you touched our hearts and taught us unconditional love.
