Dee Johnson ODESSA - William Harvey "Dee" Johnson of Odessa was reunited with our Father and his loving wife, Janice, as he began his eternal rest Wednesday, May 29, 2002. Graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. today, June 1, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. A brief reception is scheduled immediately after the service at the on-site chapel. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Dee was born May 19, 1910, in Cordell, Okla., to Cora Ann and James Franklin Johnson. He married Janice Wells in November 1952 and celebrated almost 47 loving years together. Janice preceded Dee in death Nov. 22, 1999, and was the absolute love of his life. Dee worked the West Texas oilfields as a driller from 1940 to 1942 and entered the military in 1942 to proudly serve in the 21st Naval Combat Battalion, more affectionately known as the "21st Seabees." Upon his return to civilian life, Dee joined the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired in 1973. Dee is survived by his niece, Pat Mascarella of Buena Park, Calif., and her sons, Vance Page of Fort Worth, Paul Mascarella of La Palma, Calif., and Carl Mascarella of Corona, Calif., and their families. He is also survived by his niece, Terri Enloe of Marble Falls, and his sister-in-law, Lou Wells of Odessa. Dee adopted and was adopted by his extended families on Conley Avenue, which will dearly miss him. Pallbearers will be Kent McCord, Wayne Ray, Larry Holcomb, Don Coleman, Trent Norman and Jayden Norman. Honorary pallbearers will be Dee's "adopted" grandsons, 10-year-olds Jacob Wood and Trevor Norman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Home Hospice and The Hospice Home Foundation of Odessa. Dee, you touched our hearts and taught us unconditional love. Until we meet you in heaven, Godspeed. We trust, that with your new wings, you will lead us home when our Lord calls us. Angie and Rita. Daisy Edith Schenkel ODESSA - Daisy Edith Schenkel, 92, of Odessa passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Seabury Nursing Home. She was born July 23, 1909, in Bloomington, Ill. She married Herman A. Schenkel in 1927 in Dallas. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a member of flower clubs. She enjoyed flower shows and club activities. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and steadfast friend. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Viola Kahl, and sisters, Ruth Hall, Frances Shorb, Ann Lusk and Dorothy Fallentine. She is survived by sons, Orval W. Schenkel and wife Weda of Odessa and H.A. Schenkel Jr. and wife Lou of Salado; sister, Katherine Bushnell of Los Angeles, Calif.; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 1, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Bugg officiating. Cremains will be placed next to her husband at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Annie C. Scott KERMIT - Annie C. Scott was born Sept. 2, 1906, in Benson, La., and passed away May 30, 2002, in Kermit at the age of 95. She was the daughter of Walter Ernest Nolan Sr. and Lula Sample Nolan, the fourth child of a family of four daughters and four sons. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings and her husband of 64 years, Bruce. She is survived by her son, Robert Bruce Scott of Kermit; niece, Frances Nolan Avis of Fresno, Calif., whom she took into her home at the age of 12; nephew, Gordon D. Novelle of New Orleans; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly as she was the matriarch of the Nolan family. Annie attended A&I College in Kingsville as a young woman where she received her teaching certificate and began her teaching career in Latin American School in Santa Rosa. She married Philip Bruce Scott June 10, 1934, and they moved to Pyote where he was employed with Standard Oil Co. During the years, they moved to several other West Texas locations, finally retiring and settling in Kermit. In the '50s, she enrolled at Sul Ross State College in Alpine and received her bachelor of science degree and began teaching in the Kermit school system where she retired in 1972, but continued to substitute for several years until her husband became disabled. She loved her students and had a profound influence on many of them. Annie was active in the First United Methodist Church in Kermit where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Garden Club, former president of the Monday Night Club and belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and American Association of University of Women. Mrs. Scott was cared for by her dear and loving caretakers Dora Diaz and Linda Kirby for several years. Mrs. Scott's family will be eternally grateful for the love and kindness shown to her by her caretakers and their families. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Kermit with the Revs. Beth Harrington and Henry O. Freund officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Cooper Funeral Chapel Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 744 Jeffee St., Kermit, Texas, 79745, or to the charity of your choice.
