'Dugan' Connell ODESSA - Arthur L. "Dugan" Connell passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 23, 1919, in Gatesville to Allen and Myrtle Connell. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens. He joined the Navy in 1939. He received several medals during his tour of duty including the Prisoner of War Medal and Purple Heart. He married Francis Edna Coe on Dec. 1, 1945, in Vernon. She preceded him in death in 1994. He was the co-owner of Dugan's Body Shop from 1979 to 1993 and a member of Temple Baptist Church. He is survived by sons, Jimmy Wayne Connell of Midland and Richard A. Connell of Odessa; sister-in-law and caregiver, Mary Reynolds of Odessa; brothers, Charles Connell of Tucson, Ariz., and Allen Connell Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Helen Lucille Cook KINGSLAND - Helen Lucille Cook passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday, May 26, 2002. Her services were Tuesday, May 28, 2002. Helen was born May 8, 1922, in the farming community of Cottonwood to Augusta and Angus Urbanovsky. She was the youngest of 10 children whom have preceded her in death. Helen married L.D. Cook on Aug. 8, 1942, in Alexander, La. Helen and L.D. lived in several states before settling in Midland in 1949. They lived there until 1962 and moved to Odessa until their retirement to Kingsland in 1979. She was a homemaker and worked for American Optical Corp. Helen was a member of the Fort Worth and Jax Church of Christ in Midland, the Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa and Highland Lakes Church of Christ in Kingsland. She was an avid gardener and great cook. Helen was famous for her home canning and homemade desserts. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, L.D.; her daughter, Jerry Woolard of Kingsland; son, Dale and daughter-in-law Valerie of Odessa; granddaughters, Penny Pickett and husband Tony of McKinney and Jogee Comegys and husband Wick Comegys of Kerrville; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. George Hale GORDON - George Hale, 75, of Gordon passed away Sunday at a Weatherford hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Gordon with the Rev. Michael Orsini officiating. Burial will be at New Gordon Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn. The family will have visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Hale was born Oct. 29, 1926, to Harvey and Lucille Hale. He grew up and attended school in Gordon. He worked as a contract pumper in the oilfield working in many different areas in West Texas, especially Winkler County. He married VaRue Crenshaw Gay on July 7, 1972, in Mingus, and she preceded him in death Oct. 27, 1997. They lived in Wink for a number of years where Mr. Hale was a member of the Wink Masonic Lodge. They moved back to Gordon in 1995. Mr. Hale was a World War II Navy veteran and a Protestant. Survivors include three stepdaughters, June Sperling of Weatherford, Nancy Cockburn of Santo and Sheila Boyd of Gordon; three brothers, Bill Hale of Cleo Springs, Okla., Harvey Keith Hale and Tom Hale; a sister, JoAnn Bearden of Mingus; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Frances Lucile Currie Hogue STANTON - Frances Lucile Currie Hogue, 93, of Odessa died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Hospice House of Odessa. Graveside funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with Chaplain Emmett Barnard of Home Hospice officiating. She was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Belmont, La. Frances had lived in Odessa for 20 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great- grandmother. She liked to crochet and ceramics. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Maydell Kimbrough of Olney, Lurlene and Jessie Gregg of Andrews, Elsie and Raymond Chavez of Goldsmith and Mary Nell Pruett of Arlington; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sylvia Hogue of San Antonio; one brother, Wilford W. Currie of Carlsbad; 13 grandchildren, Franklin Robinson, Eileen Croxton, Kenneth Robinson, Karen Hirst, Frances Collins, Freddie Hess, Leslie Chavez, Debra Chavez Black, Danny Wayne Hogue, Brian Hogue, John Wesley Hogue, Kevin Woodall and Sherrie Kennedy; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norene Swindle ODESSA - Norene "Grandma" Swindle, 78, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Hospice House. She was born March 30, 1924, in Hope, Ark., to Otis and Rebecca Murry. Norene moved to Odessa in 1970. Norene will be greatly missed by her family, who stood faithfully by her bedside until her death. She enjoyed dancing and gardening. She loved flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow, to whom she was married for 38 years, her parents and her sister. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, June 4, 2002, at Memorial Services, 404 N. Washington Ave. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Rose Hill Cemetery with Pastor James Bishop officiating. She is survived by sons, Wayne Swindle and wife Caril of Woodword, Okla., Ricky Swindle and wife Janet of Mineral Wells and Otis Swindle and wife Lindi of Odessa; daughters, Barbara Tidwell of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Sandra Harvel and husband Donnie of Odessa, Donna Widner and husband Rocky of San Angelo and Renee Myers and husband Kenneth of Odessa; sisters, Jerry Dixon, Jean Spencer and Darlene Hogue, all of East Texas; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Washington Ave. Ruby Louise Goodson ODESSA - Ruby "Louise" Randall Goodson, 60, of Odessa went home in the arms of Jesus Christ to her eternal home Saturday, June 1, 2002, from the Hospice House of Odessa. Louise was born Feb. 9, 1942, in Lincoln County, N.M. She fought a courageous battle with cancer and even on her most painful days she kept a smile on her face. Louise loved people and never met a stranger. She was always there for anyone in need. She especially loved donating to Servants of the Poor where she worked alongside her mother and friends. She previously worked for Ector County at the Juvenile Detention Center. Louise loved cooking, gardening and black Lab "Trouble." She especially loved growing roses. She never wanted to cut bouquets for herself because she always said, "No, let's let the people who drive by enjoy them." She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, E.E. Randall, and brothers, Jimmie Randall and Danny Daniels. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Earl Wayne Goodson of Midland; three sons, Phillip Scott Smith of Houston, Tim Goodson and wife Julie of Kerrville and Craig Goodson and wife Andrea of Odessa; two daughters, Malinda Fields and husband James of Blooming Grove and Laniece Yzaguirre and husband Raul of Odessa; mother, Reba Daniels of Odessa; stepmother, Ada Mae Randall of Fort Worth; brothers, Gary Randall and wife Karen of Crosby and Steve Randall and wife Carla of Diana; sisters, Mary Lou Elder and husband Wendell of Goldsmith, Janett Randall of Fort Worth, Linda Dodson and husband Butch, Patsy Daniels and Barbara Daniels, all of Odessa, and Ardith Nichols and husband John of Fort Worth; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and also many uncles, aunts and cousins.
