Desai MIDLAND - Kumud N. Desai passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at her Midland residence. She was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Jhalod, Gujarat, India. Kumud lived a very religious life. She was generous, considerate and exemplified the Hindu philosophy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years. Kumud is survived by her son, Paresh Desai and his wife Pravina of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Dr. Leena Shroff and her husband Dr. Nick Shroff of Midland; four grandchildren, Reema Kella, Rita Shroff, Troy Desai and Deepa Delhiwala; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters in India. Services have been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today, June 12, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Concluding services will be held at the Trinity Memorial Park Crematory, 6900 S. Highway 87, Big Spring, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Hindu Association of West Texas, 4401 Cardinal Lane, Midland, Texas, 79707. Onean Harris ODESSA - Onean Harris, 64, of Odessa passed away Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center. She was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a member of West Odessa First Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris and her late husband Freddie owned F.D. Harris Housemovers for 30 years. She is survived by daughters, Sherrie Harris of Odessa and Sondra Cooper and husband Michael of Sheffield; brother, Ralph Lawrence of Moore, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Randi and James Cooper of Sheffield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at West Odessa First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. James Jeffrey Holifield MIDLAND - James Jeffrey Holifield passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Monday, June 10, 2002, at Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas. Jeff was born April 19, 1963, in Odessa to Steve and Sandra Holifield. He grew up in Crane and graduated from Crane High School in 1981, later attending Odessa College. Jeff was the owner of Westwind Insurance Agency in Crane until 1993 when he moved to Menard to pursue ranching interest fulltime. He was a director and past president of the Menard Chamber of Commerce and supporter of various youth activities and community organizations in both communities. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Crane. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Valree McCauley of Odessa and Pearl Holifield of Laurel, Miss. He is survived by his parents, Steve and Sandra Holifield Sr. of Midland; brother, Steve Holifield Jr. and his wife Lisa; grandfather, James Orr of Brady; nieces, Landry, Lindsay and Laramie Holifield; nephew, Jake Holifield, all of Midland; aunts, Jackie Newcom of Friendswood, Amy Buchanan of Midland, Frances Busby of Laurel, Miss., and Linda Orr of Lafayette, La.; uncles, John Orr of El Campo and Ridgely Holifield of Iraan; and numerous cousins. Jeff touched the lives of many people, not only his family and friends whom dearly loved him, but also with his involvement in the organizations that were close to his heart. Jeff considered his work and commitment towards changing his own life and the lives of many others through Alcoholics Anonymous as his greatest single accomplishment. He was an adored son, loving brother and cherished uncle. His warm personality and thoughtfulness will be remembered by all those who knew him. He will truly be missed. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 12, 2002, at Ellis Funeral Home. Leta Hulse Jenkins ODESSA - Leta Hulse Jenkins, 89, of Odessa passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at a nursing home in Littlefield. She was born July 22, 1912, in Hollis, Okla. Mrs. Jenkins moved to Odessa in 1951 from Brownfield where she had been a longtime resident. She moved to Brownfield in 1916 with her parents, Hugh and Ola Hulse, who were early settlers of Brownfield. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Jenkins, and son, Darrell Wayne Jenkins. She is survived by two daughters, Dorma Nell Weaver of Amherst and Dixie Ruth Cunningham of Odessa; two sons, George Dale Jenkins and David Hugh Jenkins, both of Odessa; sister, Nevelle Boyd of Grand Prairie; seven grandchildren, Darlene Hennigh, Linda Weaver, Lana Robinson, Denise Minyard, Chris Holcomb, Hannah Jenkins and Leah Jenkins; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 12, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at the Old Brownfield Cemetery with the Rev. J. Earl Dunn officiating. Lou Dell Pitts SAN ANGELO - Lou Dell Pitts, 90, of San Angelo, formerly of Odessa and El Paso, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo with Larry Shotwell and Kyle Reese of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Lou Dell was born Nov. 30, 1911, in Alvord to Otho and Ethel Green. She graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood with an elementary education degree. She taught school in El Paso and Odessa, retiring after 28 years of teaching. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William D. "Bill" Pitts Sr., after 52 years of marriage. She lived at the Baptist Memorial Highrise for nine years and volunteered with the auxiliary. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William C. Green of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ruth and Charles H. "Chuck" Ross of San Angelo; and a son, William D. Pitts Jr. of Houston. She had five grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom were so very special to her. She was a special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that knew her. The family has a special place in our hearts for Sue Wallace, Baptist Memorial nurse and friend, and Dr. C.
