All rights reserved =========================================================================== Sunday July 21, 2002 Fayrene Edington ODESSA - Fayrene Edington Reeves, 73, of Odessa, was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Marietta, Okla. to George F. and Mary Bessie Edington. She was the 13th of 14 children. Her long fought battle with cancer and heart failure ended on July 20, 2002, at the Hospice Home in Odessa. She is survived by one sister, Maxine and her husband Glen Sweet of Gainesville; brother Kelsey Edington and his wife Grace of Farmers Branch; a brother-in-law Raymond "Sonny" and his wife Kitty Reeves of Odessa; a sister-in-law Dorothy and husband Bob Lamb of Lubbock; sister-in-law Wanda Edington of Gainesville; and brother-in-law Floyd "Buddy" Reeves of Thackersville, Okla. Fayrene and her late husband James T. "Jimmy" Reeves raised their seven children in Odessa. Two of their sons, Harold Ray Reeves and Johnny Floyd Reeves preceded them in death. Fayrene is survived by her daughter, Barbara F. Reeves, her children Lisa McNeill and husband Lee Uselton and Bret McNeill all of Gainsville, daughter, Valerie and husband Jimmy Hampton of Gorman, their children, Jancey Hamilton and husband Brian Terry of Lampasas, Michael Hampton and wife Susie, Michelle Hampton Thackerson all of Carbon, Earl Hamilton of Coppers Cove, and her daughter, Jeanette and husband Jeff Covert, their children Corey Bostic and Andrew Covert all of Odessa, daughter, Janice and husband Malcom Campbell, sons Jeremy and wife Christen Rashidi and Kris and his wife Paty Campbell all of Odessa; son, Bobby G. Reeves and his children Joshua and Chelsea Reeves of Odessa. "Mema" was dearly loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished by many nieces and nephews who called her "Aunt Faye." Mom touched the hearts of many people through her life and leaves behind many, many friends who loved her very much. Fayrene and Jimmy owned and operated R&J Service Company, Crest Recreation and West Texas Flea Market during their years in Odessa. Our family wished to give many thanks to Mom's doctors and nurses, and employees of Odessa Medical Center, the Cancer Center, Home Hospice, Odyssey Hospice and other friends. And a very special thanks to Jim Haas, Lettie Miroles and Mom's niece Peggy Case Johns and Aunt Maxine Sweet and Tammi "Sweet" Hughes who stood beside us for the last month and gave us added strength through Mom's journey to the life hereafter. Pallbearers include Tommy Gonzales, Tim Woods, Jason Rubio, Mike Covert, Doug Webster, Greg Covert, Shawn Olguin and Jr. Allen; honorary pallbearers will be her beloved grandsons. Services are at 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Melvin "Skinny" Parker MENARD - Melvin "Skinny" Parker was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Teague, Texas and moved with his family to Menard, Texas in 1925. While attending school in Menard, he was known as a tennis and track star. He quit school to begin his lifelong career as a cook. Prior to World War II, he cooked in the Hill Country of Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the outset of World War II, being assigned to the 23rd USN CBs and seeing action first in Alaska, then in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in December of 1945. Returning to Texas, he was a cook in Central Texas and again in the Hill Country. While working in Ingram, Texas, in 1948, he met and married his wife of 37 years, Hazel Vancil Parker. She died in 1985. They moved to Odessa in 1948. During the '50s and early '60s he worked in many cafes in Odessa - the Club Cafe, Cookies Cafe, Dudes Cafe, Manuel's restaurant, the Grand Cafe, the Lincoln Hotel and the Fritz Café. In 1963, he became the owner of Jonesville Truck Stop Cafe and in the '60s the Sand and Sage restaurant. He sold both of these and opened the Country Cafe, which he operated until 1985. In 1992, he married Peggy Parker and moved back to his childhood home of Menard, Texas. He was a member of the Texas Restaurant Association and a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4372. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.F. and Faye Parker; brother, Alvin Parker; sons, Alvin and Calvin Parker. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Parker of Menard; daughters, Sandra Kay Beason and husband Ray of Burleson and Debra Lewallen and husband Raymond of Andrews; sons, Melvin Parker and wife Chiquita of Odessa and Raymond Parker and wife Elaine of Odessa; step-children, Phillip Parker and wife Linda of Hext, Texas, Karen Poss and husband Ken of Grapecreek, Texas and David Parker and wife Sharon of Menard, Texas; sisters, Myrtle Wright of Menard, Nerine Zumalt of Kerrville; grandchildren, Crystal Theodousas and Sheri Lerma of Odessa, Stacy Sumter of Glendale, Ariz., Melissa Bucklew of Rodeo, Calif., Brenda Parker of Andrews, Eric Lewallen of San Angelo, Christopher Lewallen of the U.S. Army, Kim Gross of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kelly Guess of Jacksonville, Texas, Randy Teal of Colleyville, Texas, and Charlene of New Braunfels; and 17 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vistacare Hospice of San Angelo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Menard with the Revs. Steve Tompkins and Guy White officiating.
