Permian Basin Obituaries Copyright © 1999-2002 Odessa American. All rights reserved =========================================================================== Wednesday August 07, 2002 Edna Malone Rushing ODESSA - Edna Malone Rushing departed this life on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was 93 years, nine months, and four days of age. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, sister, and an aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. "Eddie," as she was affectionately known to friends, was a woman ahead of her time. She was running her own motel in Shreveport, La., in the late 1940s and early 1950s, while her husband was away on rig building jobs. In 1953, Eddie and her husband, the late Dennis "Doc" Rushing, moved to Odessa, where Doc continued to work in the oil patch until 1957, when he purchased the Pioneer Fence Company, which he ran with her assistance until his retirement in 1973. Eddie was an avid gardener who inherited her love of roses from her mother, Pearl Parker Malone. She was also active in civic and community affairs. She was a member of the Odessa Garden Club, a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, a PTA room parent, a member of the Permian High School Band Boosters, a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, a Vacation Bible School leader, a church hostess and a member of Antioch Christian Church. Eddie found great joy in her home and was skilled in cooking and baking. She was a woman of great personal pride and determination, always believing that she could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She will be remembered for her wit and her spirit. She will be loved always and greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Marie Sorenson, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and her baby brother, Hardy Malone, of Boyce, La. Marie wishes to express her gratitude to her mother's longtime caregiver, Eva, and to the entire staff at Hospice House for their loving care and support. The following words from an unknown author reflect our feelings at this time: "Many times we laughed with you, a million times we cried. If love could have saved you, you never would have died. It burdens our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone for parts of us went with you the day God called you home. He saw you getting tired, so he closed his arms around you. He knew you needed rest. God's garden must be beautiful, for he picks only the best." Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Antioch Christian Church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Raymond Prieto Vega ODESSA - Raymond Prieto Vega, 56, passed away August 5, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
