Gourley ODESSA - J Von R. Gourley, 80, of Odessa went to be with our Lord on Aug. 22, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa. Services are scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Wright and G.A. Magee officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Midland. Family visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. J Von was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Prague, Okla. to Jess and Odessa Gourley. He married LaWanda Mercer on Oct. 31, 1945, in Ada, Okla. He served four years in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He and LaWanda moved to Odessa in 1948, at which time he began his career with Phillips Petroleum Co. He was a long time member of Belmont Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and had a ministry to the hospital, nursing home and homebound Survivors include his favorite wife, LaWanda of Odessa; his two daughters, Sheri Hoskinson and husband Jerry of Odessa and Carla Presley and husband, Daryl of San Angelo, and daughter-in-law, Lisa Welch and husband Don of Burleson; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; his sister, Hetty Alice Frink of Lake Oswego, Ore. J Von’s parents, his son, Royce, three brothers, two sisters and seven half-brothers and sisters preceded him in death Our beloved husband, father, PaPa, brother and friend will surely be missed.
