All rights reserved =========================================================================== Tuesday September 10, 2002 Charles Leo Rehmert ODESSA - Charles Leo Rehmert, age 60, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002. Mr. Rehmert was born in St. Louis, Mo., April 14, 1942. He was a member of the United States Air Force for 12 years, and also worked as a computer technician for the petroleum industry. The Rev. Jimmy Braswell will be officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 12, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Rehmert of Odessa; son, Chuck Guzman of St. Louis; two stepsons, Royce Payne and wife Rebecca and David Payne, all of Odessa; two daughters, Helen Martin of Arnold, Mo., and Sharon Wolfe of St. Louis; step daughter Tina Broughton and husband Mark of Amarillo; stepbrother, Roger Thompson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; mother-in-law, Winona Mayfield of Odessa; stepmother, Allyne Rehmert of Oklahoma City; and 10 grandchildren. Claribel Hembree ODESSA - Claribel Hembree, 84, of Odessa, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Oct. 25, 1917, in Osage County, Okla. She married Leslie Lewis Hembree Aug. 1, 1964, in Odessa. Mrs. Hembree moved to Odessa in 1948. She was a secretary in the oilfield industry. She loved gardening and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, and two brothers, Eldon and Joseph Ball. She is survived by daughters, Patricia Fry and husband Carlton of Odessa and Janice Green of Conroe, Texas; two grandchildren, Anthony and Monica Fry; and four great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Hayley, Patrick and Logan. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 11, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorials to be made to the Salvation Army. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Darrell Wayne Cone GARDENDALE - Darrell Wayne Cone, age 57, of Gardendale, died Sept. 8, 2002. He was born Dec. 8, 1944, in San Diego, CA to Milton and Wanda Cone. A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at First Southern Baptist Church in Gardendale with the Rev. Eric Seay officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Darrell graduated from Crane High School in 1963 and has remained a close and active friend to his graduating class. In 1969 Darrell graduated from Angelo State University with a degree in business. Upon graduating, he was employed by the State Alcohol and Beverage Commission for many years and most recently retired from the State Comptrollers Office. He was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church and the Chuck Wagon Gang. Darrell’s greatest interest was his music and singing. He is survived by his wife, Linda Cone of Gardendale; daughters, Tara Parker of Sweetwater and Krista Brunson and husband Jonathan of Lewisville; grandson, Jacoby Springfield of Sweetwater; mother, Wanda Cone of Monahans; sister, Donna Heiser of Kermit; mother and father-in-law, Barbara and Elmer Ray of Brady; five nephews; and three nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Southern Baptist Church of Gardendale. Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Jack J. Merritt Sr. ANDREWS - Funeral services for Jack J. Merritt Sr., 75, of Lubbock, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at W. W. Rix Chapel with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at the Andrews Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. He died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002. He was born Sept. 24, 1927, in Lamesa, Texas. He was raised on his family’s cotton farm outside of Patricia, Texas, along with his eleven siblings. He joined the United States Navy during World War II at the age of 15. During his service, he was a Seabee in the South Pacific and received electrical training that was used on the construction of missile and defense sites such as the Cheyenne Mountain SAC headquarters and various other sites across the western United States. He served his country again in the United States Airforce during the Korean Conflict for two years. He moved to Lubbock in 1964 from Andrews. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and had served two terms as the business manager of Local Union 850. He retired from Merritt Electric in Colorado City in 1990. He married Mary Ellen Cole on March 21, 1951, in Carlsbad, N.M. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Merritt of Lubbock; his three sons, Hal White of Houston, Joe Nelson Merritt of Pahrump, Nev., and Jack J. Merritt Jr. of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Karree Rangel, Kacee Nordsby, Joseph Nelson Merritt Jr., Marianne Merritt, Jackson Merritt, Macy Merritt and Bree Price; four great-grandchildren, a brother, Ralph Merritt of Spicewood; and a sister Peggy Faulkenbury of Colorado City, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Rix Funeral Directors.
