All rights reserved =========================================================================== Friday September 20, 2002 James Lynn "Lyndy" Sims ODESSA - James Lynn "Lyndy" Sims, went to be with his heavenly father on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002. He was born October 22, 1920 in Sonora to John Mauldin & Montie Ray Crowell Sims. He graduated from Menard High School in 1941 and entered the Navy. He served 11 years in the service to his country. In 1956 he came to Odessa and went to work for the Odessa Fire Dept. He worked for the OFD for 33 1/2 years, retiring in 1985. He began as a rookie and worked up the ladder to Fire Marshal. Lindy married Ruth I. Clinger Walker on June 18, 1977 in Odessa. Lindy and Ruth were avid camping and traveling enthusiasts, traveling the USA and Canada from coast to coast. Lindy also enjoyed music and photography. He and Ruth also were genealogists and spent a great deal of time searching for the roots of their families. Lindy is survived by his wife Ruth, his step children, Dewey L. Walker of Odessa, Glenda R. Wright and husband Kenneth of Odessa, nephews Dan Pullen, Frank Walston and Richard Weaver, nieces Patricia DeLof and Bobbie Jean Davies. The family asks that memorial donations be made to Odyssey Home Care. Special thanks to Nurse Marilyn and Cheryl (CNA), friends and those special members of the Odessa Fire Dept. who cared so lovingly for Lindy. Lindy is preceded in death by his father, James Mauldin Sims, his mother Montie Ray Smith, sisters Amanda Gene Swindle and Cecile Weaver. Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Dr. Griffin Jones will preside. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be firemen with whom Lindy worked. Services are under the care of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Sally Ann Cole ODESSA - Sally Ann Cole was born on Sept. 3, 1941, in Durant, Okla., to Hasell and Vesta Hudspeth. Sally passed away peacefully at her residence on Sept. 18, 2002. Sally married R. Dale Cole on June 15, 1963, in Jal, N.M. She worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co., El Paso Products Co. and Noel Investments over a 34-year period. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Humane Society. She is survived by her husband, Dale Cole of Odessa; brother, John Hudspeth and wife Jan of Shawnee of Oklahoma; and nephew, Bobby Hudspeth and wife Kathy of Louisville, Ky. Pallbearers will be Bill Trout, Darvin Cox, Jim Seward, Joe Hensley, Dane Widner and Don Young. Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, September 21, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Odessa or a charity of choice. Services have been entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Gene Riley Nettleton ODESSA - Services for Gene Riley Nettleton, 88, are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at 3 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Trout, Blossom Mathews and Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Nettleton died Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was born to Theophilus and Bonnie Riley on Oct. 20, 1913, in Slocomb, Ala. She moved to Odessa with her family in 1932. She married Theron S. Nettleton at the Odessa Methodist parsonage on Sept. 15, 1934, with Rev. Mims officiating. Mrs. Nettleton was a homemaker and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to cook and was a caterer for over twenty years. Mrs. Nettleton was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Fidelis Sunday School class of the First Methodist Church, and held every office, being president several times. She was also a member of the Pioneer Study Club, The Old Timers, the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings; also her daughter, Nana Cloud and granddaughter, Robbie Hall. She is survived by her daughter, Therona (Roni) Hampton of Odessa; three grandchildren, Scott Hampton of Odessa, Cheryl Weiczorek and husband Jim of California; and Vicki Callison and husband David of California; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to be made to First Methodist Church of Odessa or Home Hospice of Odessa. Funeral arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Billy Joe Ashabranner ODESSA - Billy Joe Ashabranner, age 74, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, in Odessa. He was born April 30, 1928 in Ada, Okla. to Jim & Annie Jordan. He married Fannie Daniels on Sept. 2, 1976 in Odessa. He moved to Odessa in 1955 from Ada. He was a unit operator in the oilfield. Mr. Ashabranner is survived by his wife, Fannie Ashabranner of Odessa, his brothers William and Johnny Wall, his sisters, Betty Allen, Susie James and Patricia Odom and several nephews and nieces, all of Ada. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Clark. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Wright officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Calvin V. Milburn ODESSA - Hon. Calvin V. Milburn, age 86, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He was born Jan. 22, 1916 in Corsicana, Texas. He married Jeanne Cooper in Odessa on Oct. 21, 1950. She predeceased him in February 2001. He was a graduate of Texas A&M and received his law degree from the University of Texas. He served as County Attorney, Ector County, 1957-59; Judge , 7th Administrative Judicial District, 1972-76; Judge, 161st District Court, 1957-59; and 70th Judicial Court, Ector County, 1959-78 (retired). He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang, Chamber of Commerce and State Bar of Texas. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Linda and Tom Meier of San Angelo; his grandson, Jeffrey M. Correa and wife Christy of Canyon Lake; and two great-grandchildren, Clinton and Ginny Correa. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 20, 2002, with the Rev. Steve Trout officiating.
