Davis ODESSA - Gladys C. Davis, 79, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at her residence in Odessa. She was born July 19, 1923, to Mac and Gladys Cherry in Nashville, Tenn. Gladys married Jimmy Davis on June 7, 1945, in Nashville, Tenn., and later moved to Odessa in 1957. She was self-employed with her husband for 50 years; they owned and operated Davis Furniture Store. She was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 15, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel, with the Rev. Weeks DuBose of Westwood Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Her husband, Jimmy Davis; parents, Mac and Gladys Cherry; brother, Walker M. Cherry Jr.; and two sisters, Dorthy L. Miller and Martha C. Cherry, all preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Toni Jo Lindley and husband Larry; son, Jimmy Davis Jr. and wife Barbara, all of Odessa; four grandchildren, Scott Lindley, Misti Hinton, Traci Bullard and Michael Davis; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Star Hospice, Girl Scouts of America or Westwood Baptist and Westover Baptist Churches. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Johnny Waylon Garton ODESSA - Johnny Waylon Garton, 22, of Odessa passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1980, in Odessa. He was a 1999 graduate of Permian High School. He had worked for Abbott Supply Co. for 1 1/2 years. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Garton of Odessa; sons, Cody Hickman and Zachary Garton, both of Odessa; father Michael Garton of Odessa, mother, Evelyn Garton of Odessa; grandparents, Martha and Wayne Clark of Tucumcari, N.M., and James and Pat Lawson of El Paso; great-grandmother, Stella Creech of Tucumcari; sister, Amy Garton of Odessa; best friend, Michael Giroir; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 15, 2002, at Temple Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dolly Gibbs IRAAN - Dolly Gibbs, 65 of Iraan, died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at her home in Iraan. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 15, 2002, at the First Baptist Church in Iraan with the Rev. Mike Wright officiating. Burial will follow at the Restland Cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer- Nichols Funeral Home. Mrs. Gibbs was born on July 29, 1937, in Buena Vista, Texas. She had been a resident of Iraan since 1956. She married Tommy Gibbs on Nov. 27, 1957, in Ojinaga, Mexico. She was the owner/operator of Smokey Automotive until her retirement in April of 1998. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Gibbs of Iraan; four children, Della Miller of Robert Lee, Glennia Lipscomb of Round Rock, Doyle Light of Grape Creek and Jimmy Light of Miami, Texas; two brothers, Smokey Williams and Carl Williams both of Iraan; four sisters, Dorothy Fuller of Garland, Texas, Lois Hicks of Brownwood and Henrietta Elder and Jo West both of Odessa; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mary Nell Hogue Pruett STANTON - Mary Nell Hogue Pruett, 57, of Odessa, died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in Hospice House of Odessa. Graveside funeral services wll be at 2:00 p.m. today, Oct. 15, 2002, at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with the Rev. Paul Thompson of First Assembly of God in Odessa officiating. She was born on Aug. 16, 1945, in Big Spring, Texas. Mary Nell was Pentecostal. She lived in Odessa most of her life and had worked as a reflexologist. She loved to raise roses, drink Dr. Peppers and, most of all, she loved her family. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin B. and P.J. Woodall of Hurst; one daughter, Sherri Kennedy of Odessa; four grandchildren, Perry Wayne Johnson, Carrie Kennedy and Corey Kennedy, all of Odessa, and Hunter Ross Woodall of Hurst; three sisters, Elsie Chavez of Goldsmith, Lurlene Gregg of Andrews and Maydell Kimbrough of Olney; one brother, Wayne Hogue of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandson, Perry Wayne Johnson; nephews, Kenneth Robinson, Franklin Robinson and Rickie Croxton; and great-nephews, Justin Collins and Aaron Collins. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Hospice House of Odessa, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas 79761. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home. Clifton (Cliff) M. Deas ODESSA - Clifton (Cliff) M. Deas has passed from this earthly life and taken hold of eternal life to which he was called. He passed away on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas. He was 78 years old. He had lived life with love, passion and generosity for others in a way that was a testimony to the faith by which he lived. He was a Baptist. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. William R. Chapman officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Ector County Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Rodgers, Coby Uhlhorn, Larry Morrison, James Uhlhorn, Richard Mainka and Kirk Dickman. Honorary pallbearers are Grady Stringer and Billy Everett. Cliff was born on June 27, 1924, in Ellisville, Miss., to Dumas Cecil Deas and Dillon Butler Deas. He served in the U.S. Navy, and he was a World War II veteran. He married Norma Mae Morrison on June 22, 1950. They moved to Odessa in 1954 where they raised their daughter, Lisa Deas Uhlhorn. The Lord blessed them with 52 years of marriage before he called Cliff home. He was a retired employee of the City of Odessa. Cliff was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His love for his family was without measure and he was greatly loved and adored by them in return. He was a man who knew Jesus Christ and loved God. He never lost faith even while he endured many trials and a long illness. He liked to laugh and his sense of humor kept him and those around him going even while he was sick. God blessed him with wisdom, honor and a mighty sense of duty for serving others. His survivors include his wife, Norma Deas; his daughter, Lisa Deas Uhlhorn and her husband Billy Uhlhorn of Odessa; his grandchildren, Coby Uhlhorn and wife Heather Uhlhorn and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Leigh Uhlhorn, all of Odessa; his son Glen Deas and wife Ann of West Monroe, La.; and his brother, Wayne Deas and wife Darlene of Huffman, Texas. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a son. Cliff and his family claim the promise of God given in II Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at the day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." You were loved and adored by your family. You were a precious man and we will miss you greatly. Our sorrow is that you are no longer here with us, but we rejoice that you have found the day where there is no more suffering and no more tears. Go rest in peace. Arrangements entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Robert Pufal ODESSA - Robert Pufal went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 12, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 13, 1927, to Edwin and Louisa Pufal in El Paso, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from New Mexico State University, Robert moved to Odessa in 1953 to begin his career as a teacher/coach and later as an administrator. During his 33 years with ECISD he was best known as "Coach Pufal," coaching from 1953 until 1969. He worked with special children while completing his master's degree in education. In 1986, he retired as Assistant Principal at Crockett Junior High School. Many of his former students remarked that he made a profound difference in their lives not only as an educator but also as a mentor. Robert is survived by his wife, Beverly; and their three children, Robert Pufal and wife Donna of San Antonio, Robin Been and husband Terry of Brookesmith and Randy Pufal and wife Denise of Houston. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mathew Pufal and wife Julie, Megan Pufal, John Pufal, Lacey Been, Kristi Been, Amber Pufal, Colton Pufal; and one great-grandchild, Mary Paige Pufal. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 15, 2002, with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Davis officiating under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Gladys Vanley ODESSA - Gladys Vanley, 86, of Fort Worth died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at her residence. She was born March 27, 1916, in Delaware, Ok. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church. She lived in Odessa from 1945 to 1994, when she moved to Northeast Texas. Survivors include: Sons, James Vanley and his wife Joy of Rowlette, Alfred "Ace" Vanley and his wife Nancy of Odessa and Jack L. Vanley and his wife Letica of El Paso; daughter, Lynda J. Armstrong of Arlington; sisters, Edna Waller of Phoenix, Ariz., and Juanita Simmons of Hobbs, N.M.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathy Vanley. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev.
