(Mitch) Mitchell, 88, of Cleburne, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at Town Hall Estates Retirement Center in Keene, Texas. He was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Deep Creek, Texas, near Albany, Texas. Mr. Mitchell was raised and educated in Albany, Texas. He enlisted in the Army. Mitch was First Lieutenant in the Army during World War II, where he received numerous medals and awards and was in the Army Medical Corp. He later met and fell in love with Pauline Searcy. They were married 33 years and resided in Odessa. He moved to Odessa, Texas, in the early 1950s, where he worked in the oilfield for over 45 years. He was a tool pusher and drilling consultant for companies which include Clay Newell with Big West Drilling, Cactus Drilling and Gene Sledge Drilling, just to name a few. Mitch thought the world of Gene Sledge whom he retired with and also Clay Newell, who he named his son Clay (Randy) Mitchell after. Although being in the oilfield and away from home a lot, he always made sure Pauline and the kids had anything they ever wanted or needed. His children and the oilfield were the joys of his life. Mitch was a very proud and strong man who never asked anyone for anything he could not get for himself or his family. He was a very unselfish man. He was preceded in death by his parents, O.I. Mitchell and Georgia (Anderson) Mitchell; his wife, Pauline Mitchell on Feb. 10, 1990, where he was by her side throughout a long illness until she passed on; two brothers, Buster and Bob; and four sisters, Audie, Bitty, Delores and Gertrude. He is survived by his two children, Clay (Randy) Mitchell and Paula (Sandy) Martell; three grandchildren, Tera Nicole Mitchell, Michael Dale McDonald and Brittney Marie Mitchell; three step-grandchildren, Joshua Aaron Cofer, Ami Janae Cofer and Jonah Nathaniel Cofer.
