Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Varga Chapel Cemetery in San Sabe County, Texas, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early. He was born in Brownwood, Texas, to L.A. and Mary Minica Croom. He was the manager of Carroll Fire Extinguisher Co. in Brownwood. He was a Mason and a Baptist. He was a member of the Greenfield Acres Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. He had been a resident of Brownwood most of his life. Survivors include four daughters, Tonya Lynn and Steve Hare of Germany, Tammy Lee and Keith Bean of Rockdale, Texas, Bonnie Jo and Bobby Schumacher of Deanville, Texas, and Brandi Dawn Croom of Brownwood; mother, Mary Croom of Odessa; sisters, Barbara Jordan of Watauga, Texas and Peggy Tijerina of Odessa; brother, Joe L. Croom of Odessa; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, L.A. Croom; and brother, Walter Lawrence Croom. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Kenneth Crozier MONAHANS - Long time resident, Kenneth Crozier, Sr., 78, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 in Monahans. Mr. Crozier was born Sept. 8, 1924 in Hedley, Texas. He served his country during World War II, as a radioman, 1st class, with the 3rd Amphibious Marine Corp., in the South Pacific. After returning to the states, he attended Cal Poly Tech before returning to his hometown of Portales, N.M., where he met and married Billie Jean Kelley. Kenneth moved his family to Monahans in 1956, where he established Monahans Iron and Metal/ Mr. Crozier was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chapter 4004. He served three terms as Post Commander and one term as District Commander. Kenneth, who is survived by his wife, Jean, of Monahans, had four children, Danny Crozier (deceased), Linda Morris of San Francisco, Kenneth Crozier, Jr. of Monahans, and Dennis Crozier of Houston. He had 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Gerald Crozier of Portales, N.M., Paul Crozier, Jr. of Houston and Bruce Crozier of Houston. Also 2 sisters, June Towers of Dallas, and Betty Foster of Dallas. Kenneth was a member of First Baptist Church of Monahans, where his funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jeff Box officiating. Dora Henson ABILENE - Dora Henson, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at her residence in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wylie Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Fuller and Roland Williams officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park directed b y Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Dora was born to Clarence Abram and Ruby Cate West on Aug. 1, 1931, in Gouldbusk, Texas, in Coleman County. She began working in the Texas State Bank of Odessa, Texas, shortly after graduation from Odessa High School in 1948. She progressed through bookkeeping to become the head teller at the bank. Dora married Loren Henson on Feb. 11, 1950, in Odessa. In 1958, she moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Loren was attending Texas Tech University. She continued to work at the Lubbock National Bank. In 1960, Loren graduated from Tech, and Dora received a "PHT" (Put Him Through) degree for putting Loren through college. They moved to Abilene for a short time and then to Girvin, Texas, on the Pecos River near the Rio Pecos Power Plant. They were transferred to San Angelo, Texas, in May of 1961. Dora gave birth to Larry Brent Henson on June 31, 1961. She continued to be an "at home mother." In 1966, she gave birth to David Clarence Henson. She intended to be an "at home mother," but a couple of bank presidents in San Angelo found out she was living there. She had worked for both of them in the past. The president of Texas State Bank of San Angelo finally convinced her to return to working at the bank, and she became the head teller. In 1977, Loren was transferred to Abilene, Texas. Dora began working at the First State Bank of Abilene for Derwood Langston. She worked there until 1982, when she decided to return to college and work toward an accounting degree. She completed the first half of the degree at Cisco Jr. College in two full semesters and two summer sessions. She was inducted into the PHI THETA KAPPA, National Honor Fraternity, on March 6, 1984. She completed her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Abilene Christian University in December of 1985. Dora began work at Abtex Beverage where she was the corporate accountant for Cleber Massey. After ten years, she retired. Mrs. Henson was a member of Wylie Baptist Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond West. Survivors include her husband, Loren of Abilene; her sons, Larry Henson and his wife, Dee and David Henson and his wife Becca, all of Fort Worth; two brothers, Ralph West and his wife, Lou, of Granbury, Texas, and Robert West and his wife Darlene of Abilene; two sisters, Yoma Fowler of Odessa and Evelyn Singleterry and her husband Henry of Andrews, Texas; a sister-in-law, Margaret West of Odessa; her stepmother, Ruby Murphy West of Odessa; two stepbrothers, James Murphy and John Murphy and his wife Karen, all of Odessa; and three grandchildren, Lauren Henson, Lee Henson, and Dax Henson. Maria De Jesus Nativadad- Galindo, 74 years of age, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital after battling a lengthy illness. She was born on JaN. 11, 1928, to Merced Galindo and Dolores Lujan Galindo in Cd. Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico. She married Rojelio Nativadad in 1960. She moved to Fort Stockton in 1973, where she resided until she moved to Odessa in 1995. She was member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rita Nativadad; brothers, Merced Galindo, Prajedes Galindo, Juan Galindo and Julian Galindo; sister, Norbeta Galindo, and twin baby girls. She is survived by her husband, Rojelio Nativadad; son, Joe and his wife Priscilla Nativadad; daughters, Bertha Alicia and husband Francisco Armendariz and Maria Elena and husband Luis Carrasco, all of Odessa; brothers, Pilar Galindo of Midland, Santiago Galindo and Manuel Galindo, both of Cd. Benito Ramos ODESSA - Benito Ramos died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Medical Center Hospital. Mr. Ramos was a Catholic and a veteran. He was born Sept. 15,1922 in Fort Stockton to father Pablo Ramos and mother Maria Puga who preceded him in death. He was a cabinet builder. Services under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home. Joe Layton Surratt ODESSA - Joe Layton Surratt, age 82, passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Big Spring, Texas. He was born in Bailey, Texas, on Nov. 17, 1919. Joe was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Eighth Army Air Force. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; six brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one brother, Travis and wife Ruth of Odessa; one sister, Nadine Pierce and husband Willie of Commerce, Texas; two stepdaughters, Verna Headlee of Odessa and Ann Yeats of Corpus Christi, Texas; several grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Arrangements entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Ruby T. Sanders ODESSA - Ruby T. Sanders, 90, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at her residence. She was born Oct. 18, 1912, to Clarence and Lillian Thompson in Big Spring, Texas. Mrs. Sanders married T.D. Sanders on March 29, 1943, in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Sanders was a homemaker; she worked with the Mental Retardation Club of Odessa and was very active in her church, Northside Baptist. She is preceded in death by her husband, T.D. Sanders on Oct. 4, 1994; her daughter, Tresa Lenora Sanders; her father, Clarence Thompson; and her mother, Lillian Estelle Franklin Thompson. Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Green of Odessa, Texas; sister, Gussie Mollie Overturff of Odessa, Texas; two grandchildren, Debra Fay Davis and Theron Ray Green; four great-grandsons, Spencer Davis, Christopher Davis, Shannon Davis and Matthew Green; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to the grand and great-grandchildren, pallbearers included Danny and Gary Otwell. Honorary Pallbearers were Tuffy Overturff and Lynn and Herman Herring. McCrea Jr. COLEMAN - Marshall Storey McCrea Jr., 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Llano on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. Mac was born in Abilene, Texas, on Dec. 18, 1933, to Marshall S. McCrea and Elizabeth Jones McCrea. He married Dianne Campbell of Temple on Aug. 25, 1956. Mac graduated from Coleman High School, received a B.B.A. and J.D. at SMU and then served in the United States Air Force. Mac and Dianne spent twenty years in West Texas (Midland/Odessa), and then twenty years at Horseshoe Bay. Mac’s accomplishments and achievements are innumerable, but none compare to the fact that when he died, he left a family that always knew his unqualified love and absolute devotion. Mac’s life was lived not for himself, but for others. Jesus said: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" Mac heard this and obeyed. Mac is survived by his wife, Dianne Campbell McCrea; a daughter, Melissa and her husband Greg Nunley of Dallas; a son, Mackie McCrea and his wife Denise of Dallas; and a son, Michael McCrea and his wife Tracy of Fredericksburg. Also surviving is his beloved brother, George of San Angelo; his cherished aunt, Ellen Townsend of Coleman; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily and Marshall Nunley and Courtney, Caleb, Campbell, Annie and Grace McCrea. Donnie Louise (Ferguson) Nevill HIGHLAND HAVEN - Donnie Louise (Ferguson) Nevill, age 63, of Highland Haven, Texas died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002. She had been a resident of the Hill Country for the last 17 years. Donnie was born July 15, 1939 in Brownwood to John Leaman Ferguson and Willie Zerelda Kelly. Following her marriage to Milton Nevill in Laredo on July 15, 1983, they resided in Spring, Texas before retiring to Burnet County. She was extremely active in many volunteer organizations in the area and gave many hours of dedicated service to local libraries and the American Cancer Society. She was a volunteer in the beauty shop of local nursing homes, and lovingly tended to the lady resident’s hair shampoos and curls. Donnie belonged to the Methodist faith, and attended Highland Lakes United Methodist Church. She was a member of Lambda Nu Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International, a service and educational sorority of women involved in children’s charities and scholarships for higher education. Amongst the various duties and committees she served in the sorority, she also was a past president. She was also a member of the Burnet County Home Extension Club. In 1995, she was awarded the distinguished honor of being named Burnet County Woman of the Year for her selfless spirit of volunteerism. Her survivors include her husband, Milton Nevill of Highland Haven; daughter, Kimberly Van Sicklen and husband Jeff of Dallas; son, Brian Harris and wife Michele of Round Rock; stepsons, Ron Nevill of Tomball and Ed Nevill of Lake Jackson; sisters, Thelma Zellner and husband Charles of Plano, Jewel Elkins and husband Cecil of Brownwood, June Hollingshead and husband Ray of Georgetown, and Barbara Brown and husband Don of Weatherford; brothers, Buster Ferguson of Brownwood and Ed Ferguson and wife Willajean of Mullin; and grandchild ren, Casey and Candice Van Cleave, Macy and Ray Tanner Harris, and Zachary Nevill. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Willie Ferguson; brothers, Lester Harold Ferguson and Tudd Ferguson; and sister, Oneita Hughes. Ronald Lee Reeves ODESSA - Ronald Lee Reeves, 43, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2002. He was born in Odessa, Texas, on March 5, 1959, to Raymond Reeves and Wanda Lee Turner. Mr. Reeves was a 1977 graduate from Odessa High School and went on to become a resident of Cold Springs, Texas, for 18 years. There, he united with Julie Reeves, his wife of twelve years. He worked as a forklift operator for Louisiana Pacific in Cleveland, Texas. He also was a truck driver for Texas Mud Co. and Bo Digbe in Odessa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Reeves. Survivors include his wife, Julie Reeves of Cold Springs, Texas; his father, Raymond and wife Kitty Reeves of Odessa, Texas; his mother, Wanda Yeager and husband James of Waco, Texas; six sons; Steven Ray, Thomas James, Brian Lee Reeves, Shawn Curtis Reeves, Scotty Lynn Reeves and Corey Ray Reeves; his sister, Debra Tyler and husband Jerry of Odessa, Texas; and stepbrothers, Patrick and Michael Pixley and Troy Glenn Yeager; and stepsister, Debe Rene Davis. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of S Juan Manuel Luna Moreno CARLSBAD, N.M. - Juan Manuel Luna Moreno, 48, of Carlsbad, N.M. passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002 in Carlsbad, N.M. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at San Jose Catholic Church. Internment at Santa Catarina Cemetery in Carlsbad under the direction of West Funeral Home of Carlsbad. Mr. Moreno was born June 24, 1954 in Carlsbad to Juan P. and Felipa Luna Moreno. They both preceded him in death. He was a Catholic and was a member of the De Colores church group. He was an oilfield worker in Ward County and surrounding counties. Survivors include his daughter, Maria Ordorenez of Austin; 14 half brothers; three sisters; two half sisters; one uncle-brother; and three grandchildren. Dr. Jack Lee Turner ODESSA - Jack Lee Turner, M.D., F.A.C.S., was born in Dallas, Texas, on Jan. 4, 1923, and died in Odessa, Texas, on Oct. 27, 2002. He was reared in Highland Park and graduated from Highland Park High School and Southern Methodist University. He earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1946. He served his internship at the United States Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va., and graduated from Flight Surgeon Training at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. He completed his postgraduate and residency training in Otolaryngology at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He practiced Otolaryngology in Odessa, Texas, for 40 years. He was a pioneer in modern-day ear surgery. He did much of the early work developing the Transtympanic Ventilating Tube, which, for many years, was known as the "Turner Tube." This operation is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures today. He was one of the founders and past president of the Otolaryngologic Association of Texas and a member of the prestigious Triological Society. He served a term as Chief of Staff at Medical Center Hospital, and acted as a spokesman for the Odessa Delegation that was successful in bringing the Texas Tech School of Medicine to Odessa. He received the Heritage of Odessa Award for Health Science in 1985, along with numerous other awards and accomplishments. He was a modern-day Renaissance man who continually searched for knowledge and worked to make things more beautiful. He leaves behind countless "projects" and examples of his artistic skills at his church and every place that he lived. He would like to be remembered as a truly compassionate doctor and man who loved his profession, his Operating Room staff, his patients and those in need. He considered delivering "Meals on Wheels" a privilege, and only discontinued that labor of love when he was no longer able. He greatly loved his family and friends, and remains a role model for his children for living life to the fullest extent with responsibility, respect, and appreciation for humor and fun. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ludee Harrington Turner; sons, Terence L. Turner and Patricia King and Jeffrey William Turner and his wife, Cherry of San Antonio; daughter, Nancy Turner-Young and her husband, Robert of San Diego, Calif.; grandsons, Toby Turner of Austin, Matthew Turner of San Antonio and Texas Christian University and Robert Jackson Young of San Diego; and granddaughter Rosemary Claire Young of San Diego. Services will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Fourth St. and West County Road in Odessa, with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating at 5 p.m. today, Oct. 29, 2002. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Dr. Turner was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, he has requested that donations be made to the church to support one of his labors of love by providing funding for the perpetual development and maintenance of the church’s gardens. The family is especially grateful to Emily Thielepape and the Home Hospice team, Dr. B. J. Naidu and his staff, the Rev. Laura Deaderick and all of their wonderful friends.
