All rights reserved =========================================================================== November 08, 2002 Permian Basin Obituaries -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jerry Dean Bruce ODESSA - Jerry Dean Bruce, 72, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, in Odessa. He was born July 29, 1930 in Ardmore, Okla. He married Marjorie Tacha May 16, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Bruce was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and has lived in Odessa since 1975. He was a self-employed trucker and a member of the American Truck Drivers Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Bruce of Odessa; son, Michael Conn of Odessa and Randy Conn of South Haven, Miss.; brothers, Larry Bruce of Kentucky and Victor Bruce of Rochester, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jason Conn and Justin Conn, both of Odessa. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bill Counts officiating. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Walter G. "Dub" Presley ODESSA - Walter G. "Dub" Presley died November 6, 2002. He was born September 4, 1919, in Kemp. Dub enjoyed 83 wonderful years, 53 of them with his loving wife, Jane who died three years ago. They are again together in heaven. Dub, with his brother Pres, ran Presley Appliance and TV Repair in Odessa. He served in WWII in the 101st Airborne Division, Co I, 502 PIR and fought bravely on D-Day in Normandy, in Operation Market Garden in Holland, and in the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. He is remembered by his family for his gentleness, his love, his strength, and his hard work. Also, preceding him in death are his parents; Bessie L. and William D. Presley, and brothers; Wilson, Horace (Pres), and Floy (Mink). He is survived by his children Lynn Dammann and Ken Presley with wife Leanne; his grandchildren Sara, Andrew, Everett, and Ethan, and his sister-in-law who he loved as a sister, Dorothy Presley, many others will remember him fondly. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Dinneen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services are entrusted to Frank W Wilson Funeral Directors, hosted by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Helen H. Norwood Riggs MIDLAND - Helen H. Norwood Riggs died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Deering Nursing Home. Mrs. Norwood was born June 1, 1911, in Magazine, Ark., to father James Henry Holland and mother Pearl Maybarker who both preceded her in death. Mrs. Norwood was 91 years. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Resthaven Cemetery in Midland with Pastor Eddie G. Humphries officiating. Mrs. Helen H. Norwood was the Director of Operation Blessing for four years. She was a member of Odessa Gospel Lighthouse Church and her husband Darrell served as guester at the door. You could not get past the door without one of her hugs. Her life toughed many over the years. Survivors include her husband, Darrell Riggs of Odessa; a niece, Patsy Bodine of San Marcos; and a whole host of sons, daughters and grandchildren as she adopted in her heart as her own. Memorial Services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church at 4800 N.E. Loop 338 in Odessa. Services under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.
