Navarrette WHARTON - Funeral services for Jesus P. Navarrette Sr., 75, of Wharton, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church with the Rev. Raymond Jackson officiating. Burial followed at Wharton County Cemetery. Rosary was held Wednesday at Matthews Funeral home. Mr. Navarrette died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Southwest Memorial Hospital. He was born March 30, 1927, in Ojiniga, Mexico, to Manuel and Alefonsa Perez Navarrette. He married Jesusita Ontiveras and she preceded him in death. Mr. Navarrette had been a resident of Wharton for four years and worked as a laborer. He was Catholic by faith. Survivors include daughters, Margarita Wilkerson and Nora Navarrette; sons, Jessie Navarrette Jr., Rodolfo Navarrette and Octavio Navarrette; sisters, Maria Guiterez, Pilar Gomez and Cruz Navarrette, all of Ojiniga, Mexico, Maria "Cuca" Davila of Odessa, Angelica Pina of Presidio and Pimaña Peña of Pecos; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Jason C. Sloniger DALLAS - Jason C. Sloniger, our beloved son, brother and friend, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in Denton. He was born into this world Feb. 26, 1969, in Odessa to Jimmy and Lillie Sloniger. He co-owned and operated a successful architectural iron business with Scott Meyers. Jason was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all. If you ever met him, you were sure never to forget him. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Beulah Cobb; grandfather, Ed Marks; uncle, Pete Sloniger; and cousin, Mark Kendricks. A memorial was held Nov. 21, 2002, in Dallas. Survivors include his mother and father, Jimmy and Lillie Sloniger of Odessa; two sisters, Monica Granath of Round Rock and Dana Maples of Odessa; aunt and uncle, Bea and Ronald Hullum of Odessa; nieces, Kayla Sloniger and Kelsey Granath, both of Round Rock; nephews, Brad and Nick Maples, both of Odessa; grandmother, Ellen Marks of Odessa; and cousins, Rhonda Mullins of Garland and Marnie and Ethan Neves of Midland.
