All rights reserved =========================================================================== Saturday, December 14, 2002 Permian Basin Obituaries Minnie Elizabeth Davis MCCAMEY - Services for Minnie Elizabeth Davis, 104, of Carlsbad, N.M., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at East Side Baptist Church in McCamey with Jeff McAnally officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey. Mrs. Davis died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest – Northgate Unit. She as born March 23, 1898, in Big Foot to Joseph Nathaniel and Nancy Elizabeth Leach Campbell. After being raised in Big Foot, she met Jay V. Davis and married him in September 1915 in Bedias, Texas. They lived there until 1926 when they moved to West Texas and settled in McCamey in 1936. Mrs. Davis was postmaster of Bakersfield, Texas in 1934. She was very active in the First Baptist Church in McCamey, working in the children’s department. She loved little children. She moved to Carlsbad from Midland, Texas in 1987. She has been a resident of Lakeview Christian Home of the Southwest, Northgate Unit since 1987. She made many friends among the staff and residents at Lakeview and enjoyed all the activities. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Her husband Jay V. Davis in 1961, nine sons and daughters and two sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include her sons, Jay. V. Davis and wife Roylene of McCamey; daughters, Edna L. McAnally and husband Ed of Carlsbad, Nell R. McCamey and husband George of Enid, Okla. and Bette A. Luckey of Yukon, Okla.; 18 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ken McAnally, Bob Exum, Bill Sadler, Jim McCamey, Buddy McCamey, Zachary Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Dodd and Shannon Simpson. Services are entrusted to Denton-Funchess Funeral Home of Carlsbad. Viola Modena Hayes ODESSA - Viola Modena Hayes, age 89, of Odessa, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at Hospice House. She was born April 15, 1913, in Sedrick, Kansas. She married Everett V. Hayes Sept. 23, 1934, in Shilder, OK. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1999. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was employed as a nurse before her retirement. She is survived by daughter; Nancy Thompson of Odessa, sisters; Ella Cloud and Alemeta King of Calif., 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
