Permian Basin Obituaries Copyright © 1999-2002 Odessa American. All rights reserved =========================================================================== Wednesday, December 18, 2002 Permian Basin Obituaries Virgil ‘Red’ Pinner ODESSA - Virgil "Red" Pinner was a beloved member of the Odessa community for over 65 years, having moved here with his family from Wink in 1937. After serving in the Navy during WWII, Red met the love of his life, Maurine Sandefur, in Odessa and they were united in marriage in 1945. They lived happily together until her death in 1995. In 1956, Red and Maurine welcomed into their family, by adoption, their daughter Lana. She blessed their lives with two grandchildren, Tommy in 1969 and Erin in 1972. Red was blessed again with the birth of his great-grandson, Koby, in 1999. Red was much more than a proud grandfather, he cherished both Tommy and Erin as if they were his own children. Red retired from Gulf Oil Corp. after 30 years of employment. After "retiring," he wasn’t ready to quit. He then went to work with his brother, Cleamon, in Baytown for approximately 13 years before returning to Odessa. Anyone who met Red was immediately touched by his kindness and generosity. If ever there was a person who would "give you the shirt off his back," it was Red. People in Odessa would recognize Red as the "80-something" year old man riding the bicycle, collecting golf balls around all the area golf courses. He would then set up baskets of the collected balls with a note asking for donations and then contributed all the proceeds to the food bank, once contributing over $3,000.00. We celebrate this wonderful man’s life and all the love he gave to countless people. Red had a heart as big as Texas and will be greatly missed by his family. Red left this world suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, of natural causes. Red is survived by his loving family consisting of a daughter, Lana Boussidan and husband David of Boca Raton, Fla.; sisters, Evelyn Cherry of Burnett, Wilma Jones of Odessa, and Joe Pinner of Odessa; two grandchildren, Tommy Rice of Vernal, Utah, and Erin Herd of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; and one great grandchild, Koby Herd; two nephews and one niece. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Nettie Hubbard ODESSA - Nettie Mae Hubbard was born in Brenham Sept. 18, 1909, to John and Muzetta Watson. She passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Deering Nursing Home. Nettie was the eldest of three, of which two younger brothers died at very early ages. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one loving granddaughter, Linda Stevenson Butler, and one grandson, Dennis Stevenson. She attended school in Brenham. Later, she moved to Abilene where she met and married her husband of 43 years, Leon Hubbard. Nettie gave herself to Christ at a very early age. She was a member of New Light Baptist Church in Abilene, where Rev. Scott was her pastor. She served as a Sunday School teacher for numerous years, until she became ill. She was a homemaker, seamstress and a child care provider for many children. She gave of herself to whomever came in contact with her, in many ways, especially cooking. She was a "Blue Winnner Cook." She leaves behind to mourn a loving daughter, Rosie Stevenson of Odessa; five grandchildren, Katie Walker, Rick Stevenson, Eddie Stevenson and Don Stevenson, all of Odessa, and Kathy Niblett of Midland; four great-grandsons, Marcus and Marsalis Niblett of Midland, Victor Walker II of Odessa and "Marky" Glenn Butler of Virginia; one great-granddaughter, LaKesha Caufield of Odessa; two sons-in law, Victor Walker of Odessa and Edward Niblett of Midland; and a host of cousins and friends.
